In the heart of the Carneros appellation stands the majestic chateau which houses Domaine Carneros winery. Claude Taittinger, president of Champagne Taittinger, traveled in the Carneros as a young man and recognized the potential of this beautiful area to produce world class wines. With the completion of Domaine Carneros in 1989, his dream of a California prestige winery became a reality. Domaine Carneros stands as testimony to Champagne Taittinger's devotion to the creation of fine wines, and is considered the landmark of the region. The newest complement to the distinguished line of pinot noirs, the Avant-Garde Pinot Noir is the third pinot noir in the collection. Created to be the vanguard of the vintage, this wine heralds the particular fresh fruit qualities of the Carneros Region. The wine is fermented in small open topped tanks and then aged for 10 months in French Oak Burgundy barrels. The barrels used in the ageing of the Avant-Garde Pinot Noir are specially selected from cooperages that complement the aroma and flavor profile of the wine. The Avant-Garde is a delicate wine intensely aromatic with notes of strawberries, cherries, clove, orange peel, rose petals, and black tea. Blended primarily from the Domaine Carneros Estate Pinot Noir vineyards, the fruit for this wine is grown by the Chateau as well as on our Pompadour Vineyard located near the town of Sonoma. This blend exhibits more of the perfumy characteristics present in select lots from both of these vineyards. (6 x 75 cl)

A complement to Famous Gate Pinot Noir, Avant Garde is the first new wine produced by Domaine Carneros for seven years. Intensely aromatic with hints of orange rind, violets, rose petals, anise and vanilla. This wine was fermented in open top fermenters and aged for 10 months in French oak barrels. (6 x 75 cl)
Only recently established D.R. Stephens are finding their niche in the Napa Valley and a glowing reputation to match. This Chardonnay was hand harvested, whole-cluster pressed and fermented in 100% French Oak, 95% new. The wine was kept sur-lie for 10 months, with battonage for the first 6 months and has undergone complete malolactic fermentation. 'Bright lemony peach and baking spice notes dominate the aromas, with hints of vanilla, toasty oak and floral-apricot tones. In the palate, the wine shows subtle lemon-creme and soft peach flavours made complex with subtle mineral and buttery flavors. The texture is silky smooth and quite rich, but the palate impression finishes with a flourish of bright, cleansing fresh fruit.' (12 x 75 cl)

This generous cuvée represents the best of Carneros. Aromas of citrus blossom, tropical fruits, honey and toasted nuts are present in this luxurious blend. Hints of exotic spice such as ginger, cardamom and clove add to the complexity. In keeping with the Domaine Carneros winemaking style, it has a long creamy finish. The 2000 growing season was a classic for the Carneros--long and cool creating a wine of great structure and longevity. This vintage produced wines of great balance and elegance. The blend in this wine is 58% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay, and 3% Pinot Blanc. The appellation is 100% Carneros and 100% 2000 vintage. Five percent of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. The Brut was aged on the yeast for three years. It will age gracefully for up to 10 years or longer. (6 x 75 cl)

The 2000 Famous Gate Pinot Noir is loaded with fruit intensity. Aromas of plum, dark cherry, blackberry and raspberry fill the nose and intermingle with scents of toast, smoke and coffee. The wine hints of strawberry jam, cinnamon and chocolate. As always with this wine the texture is opulent and velvety soft. The wine is aged for 10 months in French oak 50% of which is new each year. The 1997 Le Rêve is the sixth in a highly distinguished line of Blanc de Blancs. Its predecessors have repeatedly been rated The best Sparkling Wine in America . This current release is a great successor to these wines and exemplifies the best of our estate-grown chardonnay. This is a luscious wine, round and full-bodied with an exceedingly long finish. The 1997 has aromas of tropical fruit and floral notes of Freesia and honeysuckle. Components of toast, cream and citrus enhance these scents of fruits and flowers creating rich body and complex flavors. The tiny bubbles create a silky texture. The 1997 vintage was a great classic in Carneros. The nights were exceptionally cool followed by foggy mornings and sunny breezy days. A very long ripening period allowed time for fruit flavor development which coalesced in a final sparkling wine of power and elegance. The blend of the 1997 Le Rêve is 100% chardonnay selected from our six different estate-grown clones. It has been aged on the yeast for over five years. The appellation is 100% Carneros, 100% 1997 and 100% estate grown. It is drinking beautifully now but will continue to age and develop for many years. (6 x 75 cl)
