A deep, vibrant ruby colour displaying fresh crimson edges and a fragrant nose of sweet, ripe mulberry and plum with a whisper of oak. These aromas follow through to the palate joined by soft flavours of cherry. This elegant wine has a refreshing acidity on the front palate and finishes with a luscious, lingering rush of mulberry and gentle tannin grip. Can be enjoyed young but will also benefit from cellaring for 3 to 4 years.
The wine. Sangiovese is one of five of Brown Brothers Italian varieties. The wine has a bright cherry colour with medium intensity. The nose displays aromas of maraschino cherries, savoury characters and a hint of tobacco. Light cherry flavours compliment the savoury characters that carry through to the palate. With fine tannins and balanced acidity this wine is suited to early drinking. The grape variety. Sangiovese is a variety with its origins in Tuscany, Italy. It is the most widely planted variety in Italy and is a fairly vigorous variety with a spreading habit of growth. It is used in many wines of controlled appellation in Italy, sometimes alone, but quite often mixed with three or four other varieties. The most common of these is Chianti where 50-80% of the grapes used are Sangiovese. Technical information. The grapes for this wine were grown out our Heathcote vineyard located on the Mt Camel range, at Corop in central Victoria. The fruit was harvested in early to late March at 12.9º to 13.9º baumé. The wine received gentle handling with the use of a sweeper arm fermenter and 50% of the wine was left on skins post fermentation to modify the tannins. The wine then spent time older barriques and puncheons. It was bottled with an alcohol of 14.5%, a pH of 3.43 and an acid level of 5.7 g/L. (12 x 75 cl)
Stylish flavours of white peaches and nectarines have the added attraction of butterscotch and creamy vanilla from oak ageing. Elegant and deeply flavoured with layers of complexity. The finish has a floral tang typical of Chardonnay from the King Valley. (12 x 75 cl)
Cienna is a light wine with a vibrant beetroot red colour and aromas of fresh, ripe cherries and plums. With fruit sweetness on the palate it is soft and juicy with a refreshing spritzig finish. A sip of this wine reminds you of summer berries in a glass (12 x 75 cl)
This current release is a light straw colour with some youthful green tinges showing. The nose is lifted with aromas of freshly crushed grapes, musk and passionfruit. In the mouth the wine is luscious and mouth filling with a sherbet like flavour. The retained CO² provides the frizzante finish which results in a refreshing, clean finish. This wine should be served well chilled and enjoyed while young and fresh. (12 x 75 cl)
This full-bodied Rioja style red has classic sweet vanilla and red fruit on the nose with lovely raspberry fruit and a touch of spice on the palate. (12 x 75 cl)
Well-balanced, spicy, cool-climate Shiraz. Delicious aromas of ripe berries, crushed black pepper, clove and spices is neatly interwoven with hints of sweet nutty oak. A treat for Shiraz fans, this is deep and vibrant with a damson like flavour and superb balance. (6 x 75 cl)
Chardonnay wines that have not been overly barrel fermented or wood matured have become extremely popular over the last few years. Oak maturation enhances the flavour and body of the palate but tends to disguise the varietal characteristics of a wine. This Chardonnay displays light oak flavours that enhance but do not overpower the true characteristics of the variety. It is an elegant, stylish wine of mid-yellow colour with a bouquet of restrained fig, some fruit kernel and oaky, nutty characters which follow through to the palate. It has beautiful flavour intensity, with a subtle, creamy, mouthfeel and good acid balance on the finish. It can be enjoyed young but will develop further complexity from medium-term cellaring. This delightful dry white wine makes the perfect partner for a wide variety of seafood dishes particularly if served with a beurre blanc or hollandaise sauce. It is also lovely with a potato and salmon frittata or fresh asparagus. (6 x 75 cl)
Medium ruby red in colour with aromas of summer berries, plum and pencil shavings. These aromas follow through to the palate which is soft, round and juicy. With fine tannins and lively balanced acidity the flavours are lingering. This delightful Merlot can be enjoyed now, but cellaring for 2-5 years from vintage will add complexity. (12 x 75 cl)
