Although Umani Ronchi are leading exponent of two native wines of the Marches – Verdicchio and Rosso Conero - wines from foreign grape varieties, notably Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, have resulted in wines that have achieved international acclaim. The unique and recognizable style of the wines comes from the Marche region, framed by glorious hills that meet the waters of the Adriatic Sea. The wine is made from a portion of 4 hectares in the Verdicchio vineyard of San Paolo, which extends for a total of 12 hectares. The grapes for Casal di Serra Vecchie Vigne’ are harvested from the oldest vines (27 years old), where the soil is fresh and not too fertile, and the exposure is ideal for a slow and prolonged maturation of the grapes. These conditions allow the development of very fine and long lasting flavours. The overripening of the grapes has given particular characteristics of roundness and fullness to this cru of Verdicchio. Casal di Serra Vecchie Vigne combines the typical aromatic character of the grape Verdicchio with a remarkable elegance and structure,which is achieved thanks to the rich concentration of juice. To enhance these characteristics, we have prolonged further the refinement in bottle, rather than the refinement in vat. Golden yellow colour with bright greenish heu and a broad, very intense bouquet, fruity, with notes of matured apricot, pineapple, peach, and hints of wild mint, sage and nut. Dry, elegant and smooth, with a lively and well-balanced acidity.
