Bodegas Anadas CARE Chardonnay Carinena Spain
Situated in the village of Carinena, at the heart of the eponymous region, Bodegas Anadas is a new producer with ambitions well beyond those of any others in the region. With 100 hactares of mature vineyards, situated in the foothills of the Sistema Iberico mountain range, it only produces restricted yields of Garnacha, Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay. Aiming to be the new face 'La Nueva Cara' of Carinena, Care's striking label design sets them apart from the mainstream and gives a clue to the modern, yet characterful style of the wines being made. Care Chardonnay is grown on a 4ha plot on the Finca Bancales vineyard at 600m of altitude. Cold maceration of skins followed by cool fermentation results in a bright, crisp, almost minerally chardonnay. A bright pale straw yellow coloured wine with green hues it is rounded, bright and citrusssy with gentle, buttery, melon notes and long creamy finish. (12 x 75 cl)

The Garnacha Cabernet, Finca Bancales certainly sets new levels of achievement for the region and it's rich, concentrated, multi layered complexity fires a shot accross the bows of some of its more illustrious neighbouring regions. A remarkably supple, velvety smooth red with hints of ripe wild strawberry fruit coupled with savoury notes from the time in barrel. Well balanced with a juicy, succulent, moreish finish. Bodegas Ignacio Marin MARIN OLD VINE Garnacha Carinena Spain
Impressive depth of colour with powerful, fruity, archetypal varietal character. This has softened most agreeably with a little bottle age. (12 x 75 cl)
Bodegas San Valero MONTE DUCAY Reserva Tinto Carinena DO
A blend of Tempranillo, Carinena and Garnacha it is displaying a beautiful morello cherry colour with brick red sparkles. The fragrant and delicate nose is refined, giving way to a rich and well balanced palate while the aftertaste is long and persistent. Bodegas San Valero was established as a wine cooperative in 1945, when 60 grape growers from region of Carinena came together. Today it comprises over 700 active members who own about 4000 hectares of vineyard in the region. (12 x 75 cl)
Bodegas Solar de Urbezo Vinas Viejas Garnacha Cariena Spain
In 1995, Santiago Gracia Ysiegas continued the family tradition and founded the winery Bodegas Solar de Urbezo. His aim was to use grapes from the vineyards of the Gracia-Campillo family to deliver quality wines that reflected the region. The winery is located in Carinena, a region of Aragon, 45 km from Zaragoza in Spain. This wine is a young red with three months of ageing in barrels from a plot in the vineyard called 'La Pallaresa' and is made entirely from Garnacha 59 year old vines. The result of this is an intense red coloured wine with purple highlights. Intense fruity aromas of strawberry and red, mature fruit blended with light vanilla, balsamic notes and toasted tones. Full bodied and tasty in the mouth, the round, full flavours have great structure and vivacity. Well balanced, with good acidity and quality tannins that remain in the mouth. (12 x 75 cl)
Covinca TORRELONGARES Garnacha Carinena DO Aragon
Covinca was founded in 1987 after the merger of 2 cooperatives; that of the Almonacid de la Sierra and the Longares . Today, Covinca is managed by a young but experienced team representing over 700 members who together possess 3,000 hectares of vineyards and are the third largest bodega in Carinena. Carinena is one of the oldest Denominaciones de Origen in Spain and the oldest in Aragon. Viticulture began in the time of the Romans where indigenous grape varieties of Garnacha and Carinena were then taken to other parts of the Roman Empire . The Carinena Denominacion de Origen is situated 56 km south east of Zaragoza, Aragon, and is situated in the Iberica mountain range between the Campo de Carinena valley and the Ebro river. The Denominacion covers 50,000 hectares and has a long viticultural tradition and rich cultural heritage dating from the mudejar period. Generally the climate is arid in Carinena, with an annual rainfall of 350mm. The summers are dry and sunny, the winters are cold and the area often feels the effects of the 'el Cierzo' wind, which contributes to the dryness of the climate. Cherry coloured wine the bouquet is reminiscent of red fruit, raspberry, with hints of truffles. Full bodied, intense with balancing acidity gives the wine a good structure and a long finish.
