Chateau Palmer 3eme Cru Classe Margaux
Available in Magnum bottles. The Palmer estate was created in the early 19th century by General Palmer, with the Pereire family building the present Chateau around 1856. The property now belongs to French, English and Dutch families. The perfect synergy between the soils and grape varieties explains Chateau Palmer's exquisite finesse. The grapes are picked only when very ripe and are carefully sorted in the vineyard so that only the ripest, healthiest ones go to be crushed. Merlot brings roundness and fruitiness, Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure, length and elegance while Petit Verdot imparts colour and body which all contributes to the end wine. Stainless steel tanks in the traditional truncated cone shape are ideal for extracting fruit and tannin. During blending, only the best vats are retained to be sold under the prestigious name of Chateau Palmer. Oak barrels . Gunzian gravel . "An outstanding success for the vintage...This is a layered, concentrated, yet surprisingly velvety-textured Palmer..." Parker, . The growth cycle got off to a good start in March after an especially mild and wet winter. Fortunately, the fairly cool weather in April eliminated the risk of mildew. Thanks to mild, very dry weather, flowering took place quickly and evenly in May and June, mid-flowering on June 2nd. After a cool and particularly rainy month of July, the véraison occured without any problems before a major storm hit on August 15th . The month of August was hot, but not excessively so. It was once again cool in September . The grapes were ideally ripe and healthy on the eve of the harvest. Sugar levels were high (12 x 75 cl)

"An outstanding success for the vintage...This is a layered, concentrated, yet surprisingly velvety-textured Palmer..." Parker, . Due to the particularly damp and humid conditions that prevailed in spring, all vinegrowers were particularly vigilant in the first part of the year. In fact, summer only really came in mid july, although from then the grapes ripened gently and slowly. Drought conditions persisted right up to harvest time and although the levels of sugar did not quite reach those of 1999, the richness and maturity of the phenolic compounds was astonishing. The quality of the fruit, along with imensely ripe tanins and sufficient acidity have produced a truly great Margaux with a long life expectancy. The 2000 Palmer tastes absolutely delicious at present, despite being bottled in July 2002. It has an impenetrable crimson colour showing no evolution. The nose has the characteristic blackcurrant, raspberry, and plum overtones of young wine, coupled with subtle smoky, coffee, and tobacco hints. The flavour of the wine has barely changed. Its structure and texture are still very tight, but the tannins are quite silky. These give the wine good length, and overlay an excellent fresh, lingering aftertaste. The quality of the tannins gives every indication of a great, rich, full-bodied, and complex wine with excellent ageing potential. Available in Original Case. (12 x 75 cl)
