Description:
This wine is bright, deep purple in colour, with a forward, open nose. It has perfumes of raspberries and strawberries which are characteristic of good Gamay. A good depth of flavour on the palate, with enough structure to balance the wealth of ripe, cherryish fruit.
Chateau de Pierreux, a 190-acre estate situated in the heart of Brouilly with a magnificent chateau winery built during the Renaissance, is one of the finest domains in the Beaujolais region. It has been controlled and vinified by Jean-Claude Boisset since the 2002 vintage.
The 76 hectares of vineyard are planted on highly absorbent sandy soil, consisting of pink granite sprinkled with blue volcanic rocks. The 40-45 year old vines are planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare and are gobelet, or bush trained.
