Description:
The Elderton Command Shiraz has established an enviable reputation since the first vintage in 1984. It is truly one of Australia's best and most highly regarded Icon wines. The Elderton Command Shiraz grapes are grown on a selected portion of the Elderton Estate vineyard, from vines planted in the early 1900s. Grown on rich river silt soils and red brown earth over limestone, in a Mediterranean climate with cropping levels less than four tonnes per hectare. Minimal pressing, long fermentation, long term maturation (more than two years in American & French oak puncheons) and 12 months bottle age prior to release, make this quality wine complex and balanced with a long-term cellaring potential. Almost black, inky colour and a lifted bouquet with floral tones and a hint of cedar nose. It shows spicy lifted oak, with loads of plums and berry fruits and huge soft tannins. The wine is rich and powerful, yet balanced throughout.
