Half fermented in cuve, half in oak, 10% of which was new, this is a well made Chardonnay. Good floral, fruit driven Burgundy showing notes of citrus blossom it is clear and precise with lovely juicy flavours through to the finish.
Etienne Sauzet's son-in-law, Gerard Boudot, makes the wine at this benchmark Burgundian Domaine, turning the enormous potential of their prime vineyards into liquid gold. A tasting with Gerard is not just enjoyable but highly educational - each session is a virtual masterclass in terroir. Indeed, his knowledge of Puligny's different vineyards is second to none. However, he resists the temptation to interfere with the wines too much after fermentation, and employs on average 30% new oak every year. The result is the Grand Crus are, of course, impressive; even right down to Villages and Bourgogne level where the wines display the finesse and grace of truly great Puligny.
