Over 25 years later, the name Stonier is widely recognised as a producer of exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. At the heart of Stonier lies a meticulous approach to viticulture and winemaking, while tyhere is a real desire to reflect the imprint of each vineyard, through subtle variations in flavour and texture, interweaving these differences to form elegant wines of seamless complexity. Pinot Noir from the oldest vineyards was selected for this wine and fermented in small open fermenters with about 25% receiving extended skin maceration, and around 5% being whole bunch fermented. Post ferment the wine was pressed to French oak (30% new) for malolactic fermentation and ageing with minimal winemaking interference occured before bottling. The Reserve shows an intensity and purity of fruit reflecting the great growing season, and has structure to reward medium term cellaring. A deep, bright red coloured wine the aromas of plums, redcurrants and maraschino cherries are evident while some floral and violet complexity complements the subtle French oak bouquet. Rich red fruit flavours dominate the palate and a typically generous and silky mid-palate is balanced by good acidity, while the fine grain tannins give great length and structure.
