Description: Established in 1980, Terre da Vino is an association of vineyard owners from DOC and DOCG estates in Piedmont. With 2,500 wine growers it cultivates more than 4,000 hectares organised into 14 Wine Co-operatives, located in the classic area of production. With a new modern winery and a focus on quality production from the vineyard to the bottle this is an exciting time for Terre da Vino.

The grapes come from the classic Barbera area in the comuni of Nizza Monferrato, Agliano Terme, and Clamandrana, all in the province of Asti. This wine is blended from vineyards with slightly different soils and microclimates so that the final wine will offer a better balance between structural solidity and bouquet complexity. The vineyards utilised a total of 60 hectares (148 acres), and are part of the company's 'Superbarbera' project where the Terre da Vino viticulturists rigerously select vineyard that have low yields and a commitment to quality.

Vinification is traditional, with a 15-20 day maceration on the skins and a 28-30oC fermentation, followed quickly by the onset of malolactic. The wine then matures for about 12 months in small oak, about 1/3 new; here, the wine, already impressively structured, acquires a multi-layered depth of flavour and character, evolving into a richly-nuanced Barbera of grace and expressiveness.

This wine is a ruby-edge purple colour with a rich and deep bouquet showing a complex balance of violet, liquorice, and vanilla notes. The palate is crisp and dry, with a subtly-veined background of vanilla and wild berries, which carry through to its lingering finish.

Azienda Agricola Cos CERASUOLO DI VITTORIA DOC Sicily

Chateau Cos d'Estournel LES PAGODES de COS Saint Estephe

Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2eme Cru Classe Saint Estephe
In 1811, Louis Gaspard d'Estournel set out to produce wine of the very best quality in the hamlet of Cos. He was a dealer in Arab horses, which were shipped to and from the Far East, accompanied, eventually, by some bottles of the Estournel wine. Some of the consignment came back and it was noticed that the bottles had developed exceedingly well. D'Estournel decided all of his wine would make a sea journey and to emphasise his connections with the Far East he built a chateau in the style of an Oriental temple, complete with Pagoda towers. The success of these wines is due to the expert management of Bruno Prats who has invested on a large scale and has made many fundamental improvements. The vigorous taste holds nuances of ripe fruit, plus chocolate, coffee and spices. Gravel ridges, mixed with sand, clay and a limestone subsoil. 50-100% of virgin barriques new oak. "Massive in the mouth and one of the most structured and concentrated young Cos d'Estournels I have ever tasted...should last for 30-35 years. It is fabulous Cos, but patience is required. Anticipated maturity, 2006-2030." Parker, 93+. (12 x 75 cl)
