Description:
Quinta dos Roques pioneered the idea of varietal bottling in Portugal with their 1996 wines, and were probably responsible for the Touriga Nacional gold rush which followed. Despite their fame, Roques remain a small producer, with many of their bottlings not exceeding 1000 cases. With 12 different plots totalling 40 hectares this is a dynamic and exciting estate, making a sometimes bewildering array of different wines.
An elegant red with ripe black fruit and vanilla notes, the palate continues the theme developing balance and persistent silky flavours.

A very deep red coloured wine with a rich, jammy, mulberry and fruit pastille nose. A complex wine, it is dark and brooding on the palate, with the dark forrest fruit flavours giving way to a long sophisticated finish. (6 x 75 cl)

This pale yellow coloured wine is a blend of local varietals including Encruzado, Cercial, Malvasia Fina and Bical. This has produced a fresh wine with a mineral nose dominated by grassy aromatics. Showing good balancing acidity and plenty of citrus fruit flavours that develop from the nose, this wine finishes with great zestyness. (12 x 75 cl)

One of Portugal's iconic whites, from the best white varietal of the Dao region . A complex wine combining green lemons with oak and batonnage notes while the balanced acidity and zesty citrus fruit develop on the palate into the enjoyable finish. (12 x 75 cl)
A deep garnet colour with great aromatic intensity and complexity. On the palate the wine is beautifully balanced with powerful tannins and a long and elegant finish. Excellent with red meat, game and cheese. (6 x 75 cl)
Produced only in exceptional years, this is the flagship wine of Quinta dos Carvalhais. A wine of great complexity and structure, with the floral aromas and elegant tannins of Touriga Nacional; the fruit and vigour of Tinta Roriz and the spiciness and lively acidity of Alfrocheiro Preto. (3 x 75 cl)
The Alfrocheiro grape produces a wine with a very rich aroma, where ripe fruit tones of black plum and raspberry match with floral notes, violets and spices and a hint of menthol. This is an elegant wine, with rich fruit flavours, oak complexity and well-rounded tannins. Excellent with red meat, game and cheese. (6 x 75 cl)
The Encruzado grape produces wines with excellent body and acidity with a unique ageing potential. Medium straw in colour, the wine has a sophisticated and subtle aroma with notes of flowers, resin and tropical fruits. The finish is long, delicate and exquisite. (6 x 75 cl)
At the eastern end of the Dao region, 700m up into the foothills of the Estrela mountains, Maias boasts 12 hectares of mostly sixty year old vines. It is a magical and remote place, which is gradually being restored by Luis Lourenco of Quinta dos Roques. Jaen is the predominant black grape in the region and here it has produced a garnet coloured wine with plenty of dark forrest fruit aromas as well as hints of oak from barrel ageing. A great refelction of the terrior and cool climate Maias is renowned for this wine is showing smokiness combined with fruit purity. In the mouth the wine is powerful, with very soft tannin, while it is complex finishing in a long lingering style. (12 x 75 cl)
