This ancient 6.5 Ha vineyard was bought by its present owners in 1998. The estate was in some disrepair and the Winery and House were duly renovated while the first wine was made at the property in 2000. The small vineyard produces tiny yields that result in wines of great complexity and intensity. These plots contain at least 16 different local grape varieties that appear in this wine. At the estate traditional methods have been observed allowing these wines to mature at their own pace in new oak barriques. Quinta de Macedos vines were planted in the 1920's and come from the two oldest plots in the vineyard while the wine develops real character afterspending 20 months in oak barrels. This has produced a deep red coloured wine that is hugely broody, intense and concentrated. This blend of traditional varietal is showing high toned ripe black fruits, layered with warm spice notes and a hint of oak on the palate, while the structure is immense with compact tannins and grip. Good acidity and complex ripe fruit flavours complement the long lingering finish of this wine. (6 x 75 cl)
