Wholey owned by the Domaine, this is a spicy, full and rich wine with extraordinary length and concentration. For the first 680 years of this vineyard's history, it was tended by the monks of Citeaux, who planted the Clos de Vougeot and the majority of the neighbouring plots at the start of the 12th century. The Clos du Prieure, like the rest, was sold off at the end of the 18th century under the French Revolution. Located in the climate known as Le Village, it is separated from the neighbouring vines by a small track to the west and a stream to the East, the Vouge, which gave its name to the village and to this Domaine. The Clos Blanc, a mythical, mystical vineyard, is adjacent to the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot. This golden triangle, surrounded on all sides by great reds, first offered its pure, golden sacrament to its spiritual fathers, the first monks of Citeaux, in 1110. Known as 'The White Vineyard', it is like a diamond set in the centre of rubies. The Domaine began converting to organic agriculture in 1994, using pest management techniques instead of pest control for the first time. All the vineyards now use organic methods, chosen solely because they respect the environment. Brilliant golden colour with hints of silver it has a powerful and complex nose, with notes of dried fruits and fresh herbs. The attack is rich, while the mouthfeel is impressive, with a festival of aromas dominated by chestnuts and hazlenuts. A big white that will give a lot of pleasure now. This rare and distiguished wine has plenty of personality while the finish fans out like a peacock's tail, with hints of violets.
