The average age of the vines is forty years old, harvest is predominantly manual and yields are kept to a minimum. Once fermented the wines rest in barriques, a quarter of which are new, for over a year. The wines are intense and terroir-driven, displaying at the same time, purity structure and individuality. Maison Bouachon PIERRELONGUE Vacqueyras
The Bouachon family have maintained their stewardship of some of the finest wines in the Rhone since 1898, and with this Vacqueyras, Maison Bouachon reveals all the delicacy and elegance of this vineyard, close to Gigondas. The Pierrelongue vines are found on the high rocky terrace of the so-called garrigue appellation, covering the south western slopes of the Dentelles de Montimirail hills. For many years, Pierrelongue has owed its name to this rocky terrain consisting of long stones. This desirable location also enjoys the benefits of the Mistral, which is able to blow powerfully here. The blend is a combination of grenache which is largely predominant in the blend, and supported by syrah , mourvèdre and cinsault . After harvesting by hand, the carefully selected and stalked grapes are vinified separately. Skin fermentation lasts for 2 to 3 weeks with daily pumping over and several weekly crushing procedures. After fermentation, the vintage is blended and then matured for several months, depending on the vintage, in oak casks. Dark red robe this wine has a very expressive bouquet blending aromas of stewed fruits with brandy, leather and tobacco. Full and strong mouth with notes of underwood and leather, the tannins are silky and strong. The finish is extremely pleasant, with plenty of warmth and notes of spices and jam. (6 x 75 cl)
