Esk Valley BLACK LABEL Verdelho Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: VINEYARDS Verdelho is a Portuguese variety originating from the island of Madeira, where it has long been used to make a white fortified wine. Recently it has become increasingly popular in Australia where it has been made as a crisp dry white. It is this example we have followed. Our Verdelho vines are planted in our Omahu Gravels vineyard in Hawke's Bay Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District. The vines have struggled in these poor soils and yield a small crop of early ripening and intensely flavoured grapes. WINEMAKING The fruit was hand harvested and whole bunch pressed, to tank and old barrels for fermentation. A selected aromatic yeast strain was used for the tank fermented portion and indigenous yeast used for the barrel ferments. The individual parcels were fermented dry and then blended and bottled early to capture the vibrant fruit flavours. WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS This is a highly aromatic wine, exhibiting aromas and flavours of stonefruit, passionfruit and citrus notes. It is a dry style with a good mouthfeel and body and a clean crisp finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or with seafood. (6 x 75 cl)

Description: Situated in Badens, a few kilometres from Carcassonne, the vineyards of Domaine Cros sit on the poorest of poor shallow stony argilo-calcaire soils so stark and inhospitable in certain places that only the vine and the olive tree can scratch an existence. The love of this arid terroir, where the drought seems more extreme than elsewhere, has induced owner Pierre Cros to preserve ancient parcels of Aramon , Piquepoul Noir , Alicante and Carignan alongside the more classic 'noble' varieties of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. The Minervois Blanc is lovely blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Muscat a Petit Grains and Piquepoul Blanc.
