Redbank FIGHTING FLAT Shiraz King Valley Victoria
Description: Low yields and a long cool ripening period in the King Valley during the summer of 1999, resulted in wines of great intensity and fruit character. Vibrant purple and red in colour, the 1999 Fighting Flat Shiraz has intense raspberry, clove and eucalypt fruit characters with a hint of chocolate and spice from 18 months French oak maturation. Raspberry, spices and plums add a sweet texture to the medium- to full-bodied palate. Integrated French oak contributes cedar and chocolate flavours and enhances the tight structure and long, gently tannic finish. Redbank SUNDAY MORNING Pinot Gris King Valley Victoria Australia
Description: The rich history of Australia's gold mining era has inspired pioneering winemaker, Neill Robb, to create a collection of hand crafted individual wines from the quality wine growing regions of King and Yarra Valley, Victoria. Medium straw in colour, the nose offers honey, peach stone and mineral aromas with whiffs of gunsmoke and flint. This is a full-bodied wine showing balance between acid and fruit, a rounded mid-palate and a seductive stoney/apricot texture, finishing dry with long mineral and honey characters. The grapes are sourced from Cavedon's vineyard high in the King Valley of North-Eastern Victoria, where the cold nights, red volcanic soils and eastern aspect help ripening and retain fresh acidities. This classic Pinot Gris will complement many food styles such as antipasta and marinated octopus. (6 x 75 cl)

Redbank THE WIDOW JONES Viognier King Valley Victoria Australia
Description: Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. This strength was apparent in the hard working migrants who established a thriving farming community in the rugged High Country of North East Victoria. Today a small, select 'family' of growers, some direct descendents of the original pioneers, produce premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines. The Viognier fruit was sourced from a single vineyard in the King Valley that boasts deep grey alluvial loams with good drainage leading to modest vigour, perfect for growing varieties such as Viognier. The grapes were hand picked and chilled to maximise aromatics before whole bunch pressing and running into barrel for wild fermentation. The wine was left in barrel on lees to maximise complexity until bottling. The Widow Jones Viognier is a pale gold colour with green tints. It exhibits a classical Viognier nose of white flowers, ripe apricots, fresh cream and ginger. The layered palate entwines ripe fruit with honey, sweet oranges and spice. A luscious wine that is rich but well balanced with zingy acid and great length. These King Valley wines were inspired by the history of Victoria. Long ago it was littered with long abandoned miners camps and long forgotten mine shafts that gave little to the battling prospector of the 1850s gold rush. During the same time notorious bushrangers roamed the high country of North East Victoria robbing the gold and mail coaches and stealing the valuable livestock of wealthy land owners. None was more famous than the legendary Ned Kelly. To some, Ned and his gang were folk heroes as their lightning hit and run skirmishes with the law, brilliant horsemanship and knowledge of the rugged bush continually frustrated the police and local authorities.
