In 1826, the proprietor of Chateau Langoa, Hugh Barton, purchased a part of the Leoville estate. His part from there on became known as Leoville Barton. Six generations of Bartons have since followed and have continued to preserve the quality of the wine. In 1983 Anthony Barton, the present owner, was given the property by his uncle, Ronald Barton. Anthony Barton's daughter, Lilian Barton Sartorius, now helps her father in managing the estate. They maintain the traditional winemaking methods producing the familiar excellence and distinction of Saint-Julien. 20 months in barrel, including 50% new.
