Chateau Beauregard Pomerol Bordeaux
Description: The Merlot & Cabernet Franc grapes come from vines with an average age of 35 years. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand, then the crop is totally de-stemmed, lightly crushed and sent into the vats. The vat cellar is made up of small stainless steel vats, each one corresponding in size to the area of each vineyard plot. They are all equipped with precise temperature control that allows each vat to be controlled independently to reflect the nature of the plot the grapes came from. Maceration takes 3 to 5 weeks and barrel aged 16 to 24 months and fined with natural egg whites and bottled without being filtered. This vintage has finesse and elegance with an acidity that brings lovely freshness and remarkable vivacity. There are attractive aromas of intense red berry fruit and black pepper. The structure on the palate is dense and harmonious with the tannins coming through well and a long, lingering finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Taylor's QUINTA de VARGELLAS Port
Description: Taylor's has owned the beautiful estate of Vargellas for over a century, and it is acknowledged as one of the great vineyards of the world. It has the highest percentage of old vines of any quinta in the Douro, 60% being over 75 years old. Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Ports are ready to drink from ten years, but will go on developing for another twenty years. Quinta de Vargellas is arguably the most renowned and prestigious estate in the Douro Valley. The reputation of its wines dates back to the 1820s. Since its purchase by Taylor's over a century ago, the wines of Vargellas have formed the backbone of the legendary Taylor's vintage ports. In certain years, however, when a Taylor Vintage is not declared, the best wine of Vargellas has traditionally been bottled as a single-Quinta vintage port. These elegant, scented vintages were initially bottled for the partners' own cellar. However, Taylor's was later to become the earliest shipper to develop a market for this increasingly important category of vintage, and normally released when ready to drink -at least ten years after the harvest. An unseasonably hot spring in 1995 resulted in early budding and by mid April the vines were showing good growth. Conditions for flowering in May were near perfect and once the flowers had set it was obvious that the crop would be larger than usual. A cool early summer was followed by very high temperatures in August. Rain fell on 5th and 7th September and this brought on the grapes to their final ripeness. Picking started at Quinta de Vargellas on 13th September, a week later than most of the region. Conditions were perfect and the highest sugar readings in years were recorded; and the yield was also high. Due to the cool temperatures the fermentation periods were longer than usual ensuring a great extraction of fruit, flavour and colour. Very full colour and concentrated nose. Splendid fruit, a wine of real power and strength. One of the few with a real third dimension on the palate. Real weight and concentration and intensity. Very fine indeed. (12 x 75 cl)

Castello di Ama L'APPARITA Tuscany
Description: Voted Winery of the Year 2005 by the Gambero Rosso, Ama’s history goes back to 1972 when four Roman families united to purchase the Ama estate with the goal of restoring it to the splendour of its 18th century heyday. New cellars were built, new plantings began with experimentation into non-indigenous varietals, and new methods of viticulture were pursued while in 1982 Marco Pallanti was introduced as winemaker. The Apparita vineyard is formed by several small parcels situated at the upper end of the Vigneto Bellavista vineyard. The area amounts to only 3.844 hectares and therefore production is strictly limited. This wine is a blend of Canaiolo and Malvasia Bianca grapes planted in 1975 as well as a Merlot clone regrafted to the rootstocks in 1982-1985. The vines are trained in the open lyre system and the soils are particularly rich in clay. Both factors make this small cru a jewel of world enology. Once malolactic fermentation had been completed, the wine was racked and assembled, then returned to the barrels. Maturation in wood, during which the wine was periodically tasted, lasted about 12 months, finally, the wine was then bottled. 'Beautiful nose of chocolate, cappuccino and berries. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. Refined and well done.' (6 x 75 cl)
