The 1990 has a subtle-gold colour, with a hint of green and a slight pink hue. The nose is wonderfully intense, with great depth and richness. Marked are the great complexity and richness of the aromas, ripe fruits such as pineapple and apricots are followed by dried fig, almonds and the smell of spiced pastry. In the mouth it has superb concentration and structure, with candied-citrus flavours and a full, long finish. A wine with huge potential to age, which is still approachable in its relative youth. Fonseca Guimaraens 1995 Single Estate Port
Description: In no Port house is the inherited tradition of winemaking skill and knowledge more evident than at Fonseca Guimaraens, where the wines have been made by the same family since its foundation in 1822. The Fonseca Guimaraens house style is one of richness and warmth, with a lush fruit intensity and a structure of both dimension and finesse. More voluptuous than massive, Fonseca Ports are coveted for their sumptuous yet refined body and great longevity. In years when Fonseca does not declare a classic vintage, it selects the finest grapes from its own vineyards to yield a small quantity of this superb wine, which is produced exactly as a declared Fonseca Vintage. Beautifully structured and perfectly balanced, Guimaraens Vintage Ports show Fonseca's superb marriage of power and breed in a slightly lighter, earlier-maturing style. Subtle and silky, with very good concentration the 1995 vintage has fine tannins and a solid finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Jean Pillot LES MACHERELLES 1er Cru Chassagne Montrachet
Description: Jean-Marc Pillot has recently taken over from his father, Jean, at the family owned domaine. While able to draw on the experience and advice of his father he has made changes to the estate, including a new cave, that have propelled the domaine up the league of premiere producers of wine in Burgundy. Equally capable of producing great white or red wine the style is always intensely fruity, graceful, and precise. With white wines dominating the 10 hectare domaine the vineyard holdings are spread throughout the village of Chassagne with subsidiary parcels in Puligny, Santenay, and Remigny . The vines in most parcels are between 25 and 50 years old. Traditional viticultural practices are used in the vineyards where, Cordon de Royat and Guyot Simple pruning and training systems are employed. The whites are fermented 12 to 18 months in barrel, never using no more than 25% new wood so as not to overwhelm the intensity of fruit and sense of terroir specific to each wine. Bâtonnage is practiced to enrich the whites but is not exaggerated while the wines are manipulated as little as possible and are bottled unfiltered to preserve their purity. A fine and complex Chardonnay with intense aromas, a typical Chassagne-Montrachet with good acidity, medium to full bodied with a long finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Pelissero LONG NOW Langhe DOC
Description: Azienda Agricola Pelissero is a family-run vine-growing estate located in the district of Treiso, in the heart of Barbaresco. Many gradual changes have been performed by the successive generations of the Pelisseros, who transformed the grape-selling activity started by Giovanni Pelissero into winemaking of all the estate-grown grapes. Winemaking takes place in a cellar surrounded by vineyards situated in a zone called Augenta. The first bottles of wine dated back to 1960 and were produced by Luigi Pelissero, whose work was followed by his son, Oenologist Giorgio who, after finishing his studies, decided to work full time at the winery. The Pelissero family takes care of all the activities from pruning the vines to marketing the wine. The estate consists of twenty hectares of vineyards which yield a total of 80,000 to 100,000 bottles of wine. The colour of this wine is a violet-blueish red, almost black but with brilliant reflections. This concentration is also evident on the nose, with a marked varietal scent and aroma of ripe fruit including blackberry, raspberry and red cherry with an underlying fragrance of vanilla. The flavours explode in the mouth, where it is open, full-bodied, and velvety with an intense, long, complex finish. Available in Magnum bottles. (6 x 1.5 Litres)
