Bodegues Ametller Blanc Seleccion Penedes DO Spain
Description: The base of this wine is the Xarel-lo variety, which has been subjected to a light maceration in order to force the extraction of the different aromas and giving it the characteristic body structure of the Xarel.lo grape. Coupage is completed with the Parellada grape, which really gives it that final touch on the palette. The final result is a straw coloured wine with an intense aroma, reminiscent of green apple and banana. It leaves a long and slightly acidic taste in the mouth, giving it that fresh taste. Jean-Claude Boisset St Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay Unoaked Chardonnay
Description: With its prestigious Premiers Crus, Saint-Aubin in the Côte de Beaune holds a place among the great wines. No fewer than 65ha of its vineyards are rated as Premier Cru. The vines are mainly planted on the right side of the wide coomb that snakes its way up towards La Rochepot. The appellation area is spread over two different hill ranges: one is the Montagne de Savoie, which delimits the end of the Côte d'Or, and the other is the Montagne du Ban, which is perpendicular to it. It is on the second of these hills that 'Sur Gamay' sits. Patriat feels that wines from this lieu-dit are very close in quality to a Puligny or a Chassagne. Parcel-based selection and vineyard management was used. The vineyard soil was worked in order to encourage the microbacterial activity required for the terroir to express itself. The yield is 40 hl/ha. The grapes were hand picked at optimum maturity and put into small perforated boxes. Patriat has two sorting tables, with 10 people per table, looking out for any grapes that aren't fit to go into the fermenting vat. The wine was barrel fermented using natural yeasts . Patriat eschews battonage as he doesn't like the fatness it lends to wines, preferring instead to allow the inherent elegance and minerality of the wine to shine through unhindered. The malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The wine was matured for 15 months and underwent a very light filtration before bottling. (6 x 75 cl)

Villa Maria CELLAR SELECTION Pinot Noir Marlborough New Zealand
Description: A bouquet bursting of red and dark cherries, spicy plum and cinnamon notes. A fruit driven, full-bodied styled Pinot Noir, well balanced with rounded grainy tannins this wine is concentrated rich and generous. It has the lovely perfume coupled with richness and depth which makes Pinot so alluring. The Cellar Selection range of wines is a blend vineyards scattered throughout the Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough. These vineyards are meticulously managed by Villa Maria to ensure that the most intensely flavoured and healthiest fruit was obtained. In this wine a large array of Pinot Noir clones have been grown to provide a complex selection of blending options that in turn has produced fruit of intense colour, flavour and tannin ripeness. The grapes were individually hand harvested, destemmed and cold soaked for an aided extraction period of up to ten days. Specific parcels of wine were allowed to ferment naturally while others were inoculated with selected yeast strains. To intensify the flavour, colour and mouthfeel the fermentation temperatures were encouraged to reach 32oC. Post pressing over winter the wines rested in 40% new French oak barriques until spring when malolactic fermentation occurred. The wines rested in oak until February when they were blended. To preserve the intense fruit flavours and fine tannin structure, minimal handling, fining and filtration techniques were employed throughout the maturation and blending processes. (12 x 75 cl)
