Founded by Adriano Ramos Pinto in 1880, Casa Ramos Pinto rapidly became noted, at the time, for its innovative and enterprising strategy. Aware that the quality of its wines were confined to the terrior of the wine producing Douro, Casa Ramos Pinto meticulously studied the Demarcated Region of Douro and eventually became the owners of a number of estates with very special characteristics. The objective was to ensure the control and quality of the whole production process. By perfecting its wines, Ramos Pinto created unique nectars with its own signature and in 1990, Casa Ramos Pinto became part of the Roederer Group that has enabled it to develop and promote its wines to the international market. Duas Quintas is a blend of grapes from two very special Ramos-Pinto vineyards. Quinta da Ervamoira lies in a rocky, low altitude area on the banks of the river Caa. Here the grapes grow to full maturity in the hot, dry weather, contributing density and body to the blend. About 20 miles away lie the granite-filled vineyards of the Quinta dos Bons Ares. Situated at a higher altitude, the grapes here derive fresh aromas and lively flavours from the cooler growing conditions, adding lively vivacity to the finished wine. This wine is a blend of Touriga Nacional grapes, with a small proportion of Tinta Barroca. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for six months in new oak casks and then bottled at Bons Ares, where it matures for another two years. The wine is an intense red with plum and cherry tints. On the nose, the aroma is strongly intense, revealing all of its potential at once. It is refined in the beginning with ripe plum and fresh fig. It then develops walnut, resins and pepper notes with hints of wood and mint at the end. On the palate, the attack is fresh and elegant, while it is soft and velvety with tasty bursts of fruit. The wine is full-bodied with fresh fruit such as cherry and grape and excellent tannins, but not too astringent. The wine develops well on the palate with perfect balance and long persistent finish. Louis Latour Pouilly Vinzelles En Paradis
Description: Vinzelles is part of the region of Mâcon South in the department of the Saône and Loire. Already known by the Romans, Vinzelles takes its name from the latin ''vincella'' which means small vine. From 50 hectares of essentially South, South-East facing vineyards, the appellation of Pouilly-Vinzelles encompasses the villages of Vinzelles and Loché. Continuing from the predominantly limestone slopes of Chaintré and Fuissé, the vineyards of Pouilly-Vinzelles are exclusively planted with Chardonnay and closely resemble those wines from its neighbour Pouilly-Fuissé. The wines of the mâconnais have been considered ''wines of Burgundy'' since the time of Charles 6th , and the appellation of Pouilly-Vinzelles is an A.O.C. since 1940. The noble Chardonnay is particularly compatible with the clay and limestone soils and produces wines that have characteristic fruit and honey aromas. Maison Louis Latour's Pouilly-Vinzelles En Paradis is a new addition to the portfolio, and a reflection of the specific terroir of Southern Burgundy. It reveals impressive depth, a supple, inviting fruit based personality, as well as loads of apple compote and poached pear flavours. This is a medium-bodied, expressive wine with a sultry mouthfeel. Tommasi Viticoltori RAFAEL Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC
Description: Tommasi Viticoltori is a family firm founded in 1902 by Giacomo Tommasi and today the estate is run by the 4th generation of family. From grandfather Giacomo's tiny vineyard, the Tommasi estate has grown steadily and now extends over 135 hectares of hillside vineyard blessed by mother nature, not only by a magnificent landscape, but more importantly by its perfect suitability for grapes. The family owns exceptionally well situated estates for the production of high quality white wine in the D.O.C. regions of Soave and near Lake Garda for Lugana, Custoza and Bardolino . In addition, it has vineyards in Valdadige, a valley created by the Adige river in the mountains north of the province of Verona. This wine comes from the family vineyard 'RAFAEL' which is perfectly situated in the most prestigious hills of the region, produces what may be the best grapes for the production of 'Valpolicella Classico Superiore'. The combination of careful attention to the cultivation of this ancient vineyard, rigorous selection of grapes and their meticulous vinification, all contribute to the creation of this extraordinary wine in understandably limited quantities. This wine is a blend of Corvina Veronese , Rondinella and Molinara and spends 18 months in Sloavian Oak barrels before being released. This has produced an intense ruby red coloured wine with a rich spicy black pepper nose showing a hint of truffle. This red is fairly intense and spicy revealing sweet cherry flavours on the rich, full, warm palate giving way to a leather finish. (12 x 75 cl)
