In 1855, Ostende Rozes, a fine wine trader in Bordeaux, established the Rozes house. The reputation of the firm's Port wines spread due to their quality. Ostende's son, Edmond Rozes, created the Rozes Port wine brand and was largely responsible for its unique style. Here he created a special, thickset bottle, which is now the brand's symbol and emblem all over the world. After more than 120 years of family ownership, and other successive owners, the firm was acquired by Vranken Monopole in 1999. Rozes differs considerably from the English and Portuguese port wine houses. True to their Bordeaux heritage, Rozes Port wines are elegant, complex and balanced, less fruity and tannic than those of the English style and more generous and richer than those of the Portuguese producers. Produced in the oldest AOC of all, Quinta de Monsul, the Rozes estate in the Douro, allows complete control of pressing, storing and ageing, right from the harvest. The grapes are selected from amongst the very best vineyards in the Douro valley, while the reputation of the Rozes name means that there is a dedicated commitment to express all of the intensity, richness and complexity of each varietal. Rozes Vintage Port is issued from a single year of exceptional quality, as it was classified by the Port Wine Institute. This fortified wine is produced with a rigorous selection of the best grapes that include Touriga Nacional; Touriga Franca; Tinta Roriz; Tinto Cao and Tinta Barroca. Violet aromas abound within the expressive nose, while the fruity taste of plums complements the rich, strong and lasting tannins evident in the long finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Ferrari F.lli Lunelli FERRARI ROSE Metodo Classico Trento DOC
Description: The founder Giulio Ferrari was born in 1879 and after a classical wine education that included studying at the Institute of Viticulture in Montpellier he decided to take on the french at their own game and in 1902 started his own vineyard. Successful but without a family to leave the estate too he choose a local producer to take over and develop the business. In 1952 Bruno Lunelli and his family took control and the name of the comapny was changed to Ferrari F.lli Lunelli and it has gone from strength to strength. Adopting the traditional method for producing sparkling wine this Pinot Noir and Chardonnay rose is left a minimum of 24 months on its own lees before bottling. A brilliant pink coloured sparkling wine it has a fine, persistent perlage and good effervescence. The nose is showing intense, clean and pleasing aromas of tangerine, raspberry and cherry followed by strawberry, yeasts, bread crust and peach. The mouth follows on from the nose with considerable intensity while the crisp attack and good balance lead to a persistent, enjoyable finish. (6 x 75 cl)
