Louis Latour GRAND ARDECHE Chardonnay Vin de Pays des Coteaux de l'Ardeche Blanc
Description: Consistency of climate and abundant sunshine in the Ardeche perfectly ripen these bunches of grapes, whilst the drying Mistral wind eliminates any risk of rot. The Grand Ardeche is treated as if it were grown in one of the Grand Cru vineyards of the Cote d'Or. Fully-ripened grapes are selected and pressed lightly before being aged in oak barrels made at the Latour cooperage in Beaune. The result is a full-bodied wine that is smooth with notes reminiscent of exotic fruits and vanilla spice imparted by the oak. Soil: Clay and chalk. Vinification: Traditional oak barrel ageing with 100% malolactic fermentation. Grand Ardeche 1998 tasted April 11th 2000: The rich lemon gold hue invites you to sniff the ripe open nose of fresh tropical and citrus fruit aromas with integrated smoky vanilla oak flavours. In the mouth, a warm creamy texture coats the mouth with layers of ripe fruit balanced by freshness and a long smooth finish. World Champion Sommelier 1995, Mr Tasaki Shinya strongly recommends Louis Latour's Grand Ardeche: 'The colour is pure lemon gold, with a warm viscous appearance. The nose is peachy with intense honeyed fruits and a toasty nutty oak complexity. On the palate it is rich and fruity with balanced acidity and a long fresh finish.' The Wine Magazine, April 1999 tasted the Grand Ardeche 1996: 87 points. 'Another wine from Louis Latour, from an equally classic Burgundian grape, Chardonnay. Nice soft fruity apple flavours. A pleasantly floral nose while the palate is almost sweet with a soft texture'. The Wine Enthusiast November 15, 1998 tasting Grand Ardeche 1996: 'Bright pale golden cast. Moderately full-bodied. Full acidity. Highly extracted. Moderately oaked. Vanilla, smoke, yeast. Quite aromatic, with a toasty oak accent and yeasty flavours throughout. Full and rich, yet crisp through the finish. 87 points'. Decanter October 1997 tasting Grand Ardeche 1995 recommended 'Vegetal, complex, voluptuous, honeyed and ripe on the nose. Rich, ripe and vegetal again on the palate with a little vanilla of new oak and backing acidity.' The famous French Guide Hachette reviews the Grand Ardeche 1996: 'Consistency and excellence. These two words define the quality of Chardonnay wine produced by Louis Latour in the Ardeche since the 1980's. Vinified and aged in oak barrels, this wine is a complex mixture of scented flowers, spice and even balsamic fragrances. The property lies between 95 and 107 metres above sea level in a hot dry Mediterranean climate, 2/3 of the vines situated on foliated shale rock and the remainder on alluvial clay soil. The vineyard is planted mainly with Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah, with some Carignan and Cinsault. The cellar is modern and immaculate. M. Jougla uses a pneumatic press and then ferments his wines at a temperature of 28C, the cuvaison lasting between 15 and 20 days, using a combination of both cement and stainless steel tanks. The wines are matured in foudres (12 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Chardonnay AC
Description: The Bourgogne Chardonnay is a blend of 50% barrel fermented Ladoix, with 30% coming from the grower in Puligny who supplies the grapes for the award winning Champ Gain. The fruit from Ladoix gives a richness to the wine, while that from Puligny gives a lovely minerality. The wine has an attractive clear yellow in colour with crystalline reflections, and has a very refined nose with notes of white flowers. It is round and delicate in the mouth, with a polished acidity which lends freshness and purity. Jean-Claude Boisset has undergone a radical transformation since 2002. Gregory Patriat, head winemaker, spends a great deal of his time in the vineyards, and pays the growers by the hectare, rather than by the tonnage, in order to ensure low yields. Each appellation has its distinctive character, yet there is also a house style: elegant and balanced, the oak underpinning the pristine and supple fruit. (12 x 75 cl)

Bodegas Valentin Bianchi PARTICULAR Cabernet Sauvignon San Rafael Argentina
Description: The Particular wines are made from grapes selected from the best and oldest vineyards owned by Valentin Bianchi in San Rafael. This ‘Particular’ Cabernet Sauvignon has a good intensity, with deep colour and attractive perfumes of red fruits, particularly blackcurrant and plums. Full-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins rounded out by the addition of the plummy Merlot and Syrah , this wine has nicely balanced oak and fruit, with a long finish. The Bianchi family winery was founded in 1928 by Italian immigrant Valentin Bianchi and now covers 350 hectares of vineyard. It is run by the third generation, headed by Enzo Bianchi. Until recently a sleeping giant that was dependent largely on the domestic market, they have undergone a gradual transformation and modernisation in the past few years. (12 x 75 cl)
