Bodegas Solar de Urbezo Vinas Viejas Garnacha Cariena Spain
Description: In 1995, Santiago Gracia Ysiegas continued the family tradition and founded the winery Bodegas Solar de Urbezo. His aim was to use grapes from the vineyards of the Gracia-Campillo family to deliver quality wines that reflected the region. The winery is located in Carinena, a region of Aragon, 45 km from Zaragoza in Spain. This wine is a young red with three months of ageing in barrels from a plot in the vineyard called 'La Pallaresa' and is made entirely from Garnacha 59 year old vines. The result of this is an intense red coloured wine with purple highlights. Intense fruity aromas of strawberry and red, mature fruit blended with light vanilla, balsamic notes and toasted tones. Full bodied and tasty in the mouth, the round, full flavours have great structure and vivacity. Well balanced, with good acidity and quality tannins that remain in the mouth. (12 x 75 cl)

Luc is a true Vinarchiste, looking for purity and intensity, the maximum expression of the potential of the grapes. In the vineyard the soil is nourished with seaweed and silica treatments to encourage microbial activity. According to him the soil is lifeless and it is a fifteen year process to rid the ground of pollutants. Manual picking and selection of ripe grapes is essential; on the top cuvées there are several tries in the vineyard, and the wine will only be released if it reaches the highest of standards.
