Robertson Winery ASHTON VINEYARD Chardonnay RSA
Description: For the first time in many years there were good rains and cold temperatures during winter in Robertson. It was good in that it helped to build up a little ground water, as it was not necessary to irrigate the vines during the winter months. Spring arrived at the beginning of September; overall bud break was very good due to the cold conditions of winter. Night temperatures in October and November were significantly cooler compared to the previous year. This ensured good acidities. The Chardonnay vines are planted higher up against the mountains on gravelly Karoo soils with some clay and lime fractions. The high lime content in the soil ensures a healthy well drained growing medium for our vines. Chardonnay traditionally buds irregularly, therefore pruning only happens at the end of July to ensure even budding. Our harvest started on 28 January 2003. Attention to detail was well managed and has resulted in good potential in the quality of our wines. The Chardonnay grapes were the first grapes harvested in 2003 and were brought to the cellar in the first week of February. Grapes were harvested at a very ripe stage between 23,5º (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Saint Clair is owned by Neal and Judy Ibbotson, two of Marlborough's earliest vineyard pioneers, who planted their first vines in 1978. Grapes were originally supplied to local wine companies. However, a desire to extend the quality achieved in the vineyard through to the finished wine, led to the establishment of Saint Clair Estate Wines. The Saint Clair name originates from the main vineyard property, which was originally settled by the 'Sinclair' family. James Sinclair built one of the first homes in Blenheim and was closely associated with the development of the early town. With the passage of time the name reverted to the original, Saint Clair. The Saint Clair label, designed by Graphic Designer Tony Ibbotson of Sydney, depicts the golden glow of the hidden Marlborough valley with the halo silhouetted above. A blend of the aromatic quality of the Wairau combined with the weight of the Awatere Valley in Marlborough to give a well-rounded and fresh wine. (12 x 75 cl)

Coriole Estate Sangiovese McLaren Vale South Australia
Description: Depending on the vintage, a portion of Sangiovese is kept in stainless steel, a portion into newer oak barrels, and the majority is matured in older oak. These components are blended together prior to bottling. The resultant wine is lighter to medium bodied, frequently showing rich fruit flavours of dark cherry and spice balanced by crisp acidity. It is an ideal accompaniment to many types of food including rich Italian pasta and mild Thai dishes. Careful cellaring for 3-5 years will allow this wine to develop extra complexity. Coriole Estate was established by the Lloyd family in 1967 in the hills overlooking the McLaren Vale wine region and Gulf St Vincent. Coriole remains today as a small family owned company specialising in Shiraz, but which has also been at the forefront of producing Sangiovese in Australia. The estate is run by Mark Lloyd and his brother Paul. The winemaker since 1999 is Grant Harrison ex Petaluma and Primo Estate. The average age of the vineyards is 30-35 years old with the oldest block planted in 1919. The Mary Kathleen 1998 obtained a Parker 94 rating (12 x 75 cl)

Description: There is nothing petite about Petite Sirah. It has traditionally been used in blends to make red wines bigger and more assertive. The Clay Station Petite Sirah was fermented warm and handled gently throughout the winemaking process, maximizing color and flavor extraction. 93% was barrel aged 12 months in both new and older American and French oak. The remainder was cellared in stainless steel to better preserve the fresh blueberry fruit character typical of the variety. This is a big, full bodied and peppery red wine with lots of blueberry character and flavor mingling with notes of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate and hints of toast and vanilla.
