Domaine Belluard LE FEU Gringet Vin De Savoie-Ayze
Description: The village of Ayze is a little commune in the Haute-Savoie situated in the heart of the valley of the Arve between Geneva and Chamonix Mont-Blanc. Vineyards have been established here since the 13th century. The vines are 450m high on exposed south-facing slopes where the soil is composed of glacial sediments, moraines . The Alpine climate ensures a big temperature difference between day and night, ensuring both physiological maturity in the grapes as well as good acidity. Here Patrick and Dominique Belluard make use of the virtually unique ancient grape Gringet said to be related to the Savagnin grape of Jura. Also called Petite Roussette and said to be part of the Traminer family, other research suggests that it was brought back by monks, returning from Cyprus in the 13th century. Showing exuberant acidity there is no malolactic fermentation and the fruit is beacon-bright, while the aromas of white flowers and jasmine give way to citrus-edged flavours with a hint of white peach, jasmine and violet and a twist of aniseed to finish. In 2001 the vineyards started undergoing a total conversion to biodynamic viticulture. (6 x 75 cl)

Bergsig Estate Chenin Blanc Breede River Valley RSA
Description: The Bergsig Estate has been in the Lategan family since 1843. De Wet Lategan is the sixth generation winemaker and has obtained a BSc degrees in Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch, before joining the family firm in 1990. His brothers Louis and Plum manage the vineyards. Their father Prop Lategan is still very active in the general management and promotion of the wines from his beautiful 400 Ha farm in the foothills of Bainskloof Mountain. Bergsig Estate lies at the narrow funnel-like entrance to the Breede River Valley. The regular afternoon South-easterly breezes have a moderating effect on the summer heat and ensures cool picking temperatures throughout the day. The Bergsig Estate was the first winery outside the coastal region to earn a superior award for red wine. More specifically the 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon. This encouraged Prop Lategan to plant more red varieties and today 20% of all plantings are Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot, Pinotage, Ruby Cabernet and Tinta Barocca. On the white side Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and now the very popular Gewurztraminer predominate. The modern cellar handles 4000 tons per harvest and boasts a separate wood maturation cellar. They are certainly at the cutting edge of the New Wave of Bordeaux wines; New World attention to fruit but still a respect for the best of the Old World traditions and terroir is proving to be an effective formula in both the Lezongars and de Roques ranges. An attractive blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon this is a deep red coloured wine with rich plum fruit and spice flavours. Description: The Weingut Stadt Krems is an ancient estate owned by the town of Krems with over 32 hectares of vineyards. Its land has come from two main sources. In 1210 the Babenberger Duke Leopold VI founded a Citizen's Hospital in Krems and bequeathed it a large amount of vineyards. In 1452 more land was bequeathed to the estate by the Imperial Burgrave Ulrich von Dachsberg. Until 1744 the wines were made in the gothic vaults of the town hall but for the past couple of centuries have been produced in a more modern, convenient facility, with vinification carried out in stainless steel, temperature controlled tanks to maintain freshness and clarity in the wines. Known as Weissburgunder throughout Austria where it produces some of the country's finest whites. This wine displays fresh, crisp appley fruit but with some concentration and complexity. (12 x 75 cl)
