Chateau Tour des Gendres Bergerac Rouge
Description: An intense wine full of ripe nuances, the nose has a Bordelais style with good ripeness showing. On the palate there is soft elegant, red berry fruit with ripe, round tannins. he finish is medium length with a nice balancing acidity. The outstanding Lieu-dit on this estate adds concentration to the wine. Yields are lower than usual in this region as Luc de Conti is a firm believer in quality rather than quantity. Foradori Teroldego Rotaliano DOC
Description: There are two distinct levels of quality that Elisabetta Foradori has aimed at producing from Teroldego: the first is the 'Foradori', marked by the purity, dignity and intensity of the fruit. Soft yet penetrating its sweetness is backed by a supporting acidity that weaves elegantly amongst the fruit. The second, called 'Granato' is a wine of greater strength, harmony, depth and nobility. Deep, almost shy on the first nose, it reveals itself as the aromas come into focus: wild berries and candied fruit make way for roasted hazelnuts, baked bread, leather, eucalyptus and pomegranate, then the full robust palate shows plenty of temptingly chewy flesh. The following are the inspiring principles of Elisabetta Foradori's work in her vineyards, the climate and soil are elements that cannot be modified, while the work of man can lead to deep changes in the grapevine. Clonal selection in the 1970s led to the homogenisation of the Teroldego grape variety and hence to its genetic impoverishment: very few clones aimed exclusively at increasing the yield were developed. The limited area cultivated with Teroldego grapes was soon covered completely with the clonal material. The result is that today almost all of the vineyards are cultivated with only this variety of Teroldego. In 1985 Elisabetta Foradori started her work to recover the variety's diversity. After identifying the estate's oldest vineyard, she started with the careful selection and multiplication of the plant specimens that had the required quality features. Their monitoring over the years led to a further selection and it was followed by others reaching up to this day. Foradori has selected 15 Teroldego biotypes that she uses for replanting. They are the qualitative backbone of her wines. Ensuring a vineyard's utmost diversity is the best possible guarantee of obtaining great qualitative results. This is the idea behind all of the work that follows in the vineyard, aimed at reaching the variety's perfect balance thus allowing it to express itself in full and exalt its whole potential and uniqueness. Castello di Ama AMA AL POGGIO Bianco Tuscany
Description: Voted Winery of the Year 2005 by the Gambero Rosso, Ama’s history goes back to 1972 when four Roman families united to purchase the Ama estate with the goal of restoring it to the splendour of its 18th century heyday. New cellars were built, new plantings began with experimentation into non-indigenous varietals, and new methods of viticulture were pursued while in 1982. Marco Pallanti was introduced as winemaker. In 1984 Castello di Ama decided to increase the area devoted to chardonnay, and planted 4 more hectares in the area known as 'Poggio.' The grapes, were hand-picked with 60% fermented in stainless steel tanks and the rest in oak barrels. This has produced an interesting blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Malvasia showing an intense nose of honey and toasted nuts. The palate is loaded with rich stone fruits and a lovely creamy mouthfeel with a long finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Kingston Estate EMINENT Shiraz South Eastern Australia
Description: Kingston Estate Wines has grown rapidly since Sarantos and Constantina Moularadellis first developed their 40 acre vineyard in 1979 in South Australia's Riverland wine region. Today, Kingston is the 10th largest wine producer in Australia and remains one of Australia's largest family-owned wineries. Echelon showcases the limited release varietal wines from South Australia, considered by Kingston's winemaker as the pinnacle of each vintage. Only parcels displaying exceptional fruit vibrancy and intensity of flavour make the final selection. Sourced from various South Australian premium regions, the wines are assessed not only for their youthful qualities, but an ability to develop their full potential with further bottle maturation. The wine was produced from 100%South Australian fruit including Adelaide Plains , Clare Valley , Langhorne Creek and Limestone Coast . The fruit was fermented as separate components in 20t static fermenters. A portion of the wine was drained off to finish fermentation in new American oak barrels. Adelaide Plains and Clare Valley ferments were transferred to new American oak barrels for completion of fermentation. The remaining ferments were drained and pressed with light pressings combined with the free run juice. The wines were left to settle for 7 days and then racked to new and one year old American and French oak barrels for 18 months maturation. This has produced a bright, deep red coloured wine with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is full of complex fruit characters showing rich fruitcake, dark chocolate and licorice notes integrated with blackberry and mint, together with some spice and coffee oak flavours. Great flavour concentration, opulent mid palate fruit and fine ripe tannins make this is a wine to savour. The oak underpins the fruit and provides flavour complexity and structure to the wine.
