Bodegas Muga BARREL FERMENTED BLANCO Rioja Alta duplicate
Description: Bodegas Muga was founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and his wife, Aurora Cano, both of whom came from families with a long tradition of activity within the wine-making industry. Over the years, Muga wines have gained international recognition and acclaim, and from working with just a few thousand kilos of grapes per year, the bodega has now expanded its processing capacity to over one and half million kilos. Today, new generations of the Muga family continue to join the family business, making Bodegas Muga a true symbol of family tradition. The Bodegas Muga vineyards are situated on the east and south-facing slopes of the Obarenes Mountains, which are sculptured into terraces. The land is divided into small plots with varying physical and chemical properties and have their own individual and clearly defined personalities. Made from Viura and Malvasía , the grapes are grown on clay-calcareous and alluvial soil. The double grape checking procedure, both on selection belt and on tasting the musts, means that 50% of the harvest is excluded for use in this wine. Slow fermentation in new French oak and 3 months on fine lees are the secrets of this careful production process which produces such great wines. Pale straw coloured wine it has a nose of complex fruit aromas showing peach, apple and pineapple. The Fine lees are showing great character and the oak is evident while the mouth is lively, sharp and unctuous as well as leaving a feeling of length on the palate and finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Caves Des Vignerons de Saumur LA CABRIOLE Blanc Saumur
Description: This excellent cooperative under the guidance of managing director Claude Guichet is now producing some of the most consistent quality and value wines from the Loire. Long contracts and bonuses for quality grapes have meant it is now in the member interests to invest time and effort in producing the best grapes for the production of wine. Tufa soils, or limestone, are the key to the style of wines produced in this area. The soils stores heat and humidity during the day and releases it during the cool nights, while the grapes are picked both manually and mechanically and undergo severe sorting. Using a pneumatic press with short skin contact enables low temperature fermentation . After bottling, the wines are left to mature for between several months to a few years in the underground cellars Aromas of honey and honeysuckle can be found on the nose, on the palate it is light, dry and crisp, with well balanced acidity and a long lingering finish of quince, melon and honeydew.

Stormy Cape Shiraz Western Cape RSA
Description: 'Speaking of South Africa, if you see a label that says 'Stormy Cape Cinsault-Shiraz' and a price tag of £7.99 you may, like me, say 'Oh, just another South Africa red blend' and pass on. Well you would be missing a real treat. Selected and blended by the winemaker at the now legendary Thelema winery, Stormy Cape red resembles, I reckon, the kind of old-fashioned red Burgundy that used to be fortified with Rhone or North African wines. It has a remarkably complex nose, very classy stuff in fact, coupled with terrific colour and smashing length. Touches of sous-bois and farmyard too. If ever there was a wine that tasted dearer than its price, this is it.' Tom Doorley (12 x 75 cl)
