Description: Bodegas Alicia Rojas has a long and rich history that begins in 1920. In his first traditional cellar in Laguardia, Mr Gonzalo Rojas began making wines from the indigenous grape Tempranillo and soon began ageing them in oak, something he had learnt from a trip to Bordeaux. His wines were soon held in high esteem and this, along with his commitment to the growth of the wine business in Rioja, soon saw him appointed to the Administrative Council Today the Rojas family wines are still highly rated and they produce both ordinary Tinto and Crianza as well as an organic version of both under the Solarce label. Altos las Hormigas Mendoza Malbec Argentina
Description: Altos las Hormigas only produce Malbec and have in a short space of time built a reputation as one of Mendoza's top five producers of this variety. The Altos Las Hormigas Malbec has a fabulously intense colour, a floral nose with wild violets and spice that gives way to a smooth and rich fruit on the palate that is nicely balanced by a firmness on the finish. The vineyards are situated in Lujàn de Cuyo, one of Mendoza’s premier growing areas. The estate was created by Alberto Antonini and Antonio Morescalchi following their first trip to Argentina in 1995, and is now regarded as one of the best producers of Malbec in Mendoza. (12 x 75 cl)

Bodega Castano HECULA Yecla DO Spain
Description: Cherry red colour showing an elegant and subtle nose of black fruits, including plum, give way to well-integrated spicy notes. On the liquorice dominated palate this Monastrell is smooth at the beginning, medium structured, non-ridged, well-balanced, with outstanding acidity and tannins but very well integrated. The Castano family has 410 hectares of vineyards in Yecla in south eastern Spain. They symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich, warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude and transformed into robustly modern wines. The vineyard represents 400 hectares in four different areas of Yecla and the Hecula comes from Campo Arriba sub-zone with an altitude between 400 and 700 metres that produce lively, zesty fruit. After traditional vinification, with soft pump-over and fermentation the wine is racked and ripened in stainless steel tanks and American oak casks. (12 x 75 cl)

Valle Pradinhos PORTA VELHA Tinto Douro Portugal
Description: This was Manoel Pinto de Azevedo's retreat from the hustle and bustle of industry in Porto. He bought an old manor house and surrounding lands in 1913 and frequently hosted shooting parties and family get-togethers. Later he planted vineyards and built a winery to slake the thirsts of his guests. Over the years the reputation of the wine grew and his successors developed the vineyards further, however it was not until the 1990's that consistency of quality was achieved. Maria Antonio Pinto de Azevedo Mascarenhas now heads this unique estate and together with forward thinking winemaker Rui Cunha are taking quality to new heights. This wine is a blend of Tinta Roriz with Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon, that additionally make up the majority of the vareital stock, planted on south-facing slatey schist slopes at about 500 meters above sea level. Part of the wine is barrel matured and is showing plenty of inky black fruit character with flavours of dry truffles and dried herbs. An elegant structure and good balance complement the finish of this enjoyable wine. (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Our Single Vineyard Sangiovese is remarkably dark in colour, with deep violet red hues. The highly perfumed nose features ripe black cherry, plum and peach aromas. The long ageing in mostly new oak barrels contributed rich vanilla, toast, and caramel, with background notes of cinnamon and clove. On the palate, the full-bodied wine has spicy, chewy tannins and well-balanced acidity, which give the wine both length and breadth in the mouth. The vanilla oak draws forward on the smooth finish. Description: Winemaker's comments Colour : Straw yellow with green tints. Bouquet and palate : A full-bodied creamy textured wine, where subtle citrus notes combine with delicate barrel fermented flavours. Vineyards Fruit for this wine, ranging in age from 9 to 13 years, were sourced from vineyards in the Durbanville, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Malmesbury and Darling areas and are situated on mostly south to south-westerly facing slopes. Winemaking The grapes were harvested by hand at between 23° and 24° Balling during February and March. Following settling, the clean juice was racked to fermentation and inoculated, whereafter 40% of the fermenting juice was transferred to a combination of new and second-fill French oak barrels, left on the lees for approximately six months.
