Seifried Estates OLD COACH ROAD Sauvignon Blanc Nelson NZ
Description: Winemakers Note: In the vineyard we removed leaves around the fruiting zone to allow light penetration and air movement around the ripening bunches. We achieved excellent ripeness and very strong intense varietal flavours following a warm dry summer. Tasting Note: Fresh, lively and herbaceous with delicious passionfruit flavours in the mouth. The wine is nicely integrated and has a long memorable finish. Our Rabbit Island vineyards are situated on a wide river flat. The soil is made up of gravelly sandy loam, which marks the sites of kumara beds prior to European settlement in the early 1800's. The Maori transferred and spread fine gravel and sand over the land to provide suitable soils for their kumara plantings. Scrub was burned to give ash and charcoal, which increased soil fertility and gave characteristic topsoil. This fertility is now considerably reduced with modern farming. The soils are however very sandy and gravely and free draining. The water table is relatively high ensuring adequate underground water. These vineyards are about 1.5 kilometres from the sea, which helps moderate summer temperature. (12 x 75 cl)

Seifried Estates OLD COACH ROAD Unoaked Chardonnay Nelson NZ
Description: Winemakers Note: Traditionally Chardonnay is made in an oaked style, however, we are often asked: what does Chardonnay as a grape variety with no oak aging taste like? This is it. The grapes were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed, cold fermented to retain crisp fruit flavours, and then a portion was inoculated for malolactic fermentation. The wine was blended and bottled in July. Tasting Note: Beautiful tropical fruit on the nose is supported by intense apple and stone fruit flavours on the palate. Fresh citrus characters are softened by a slightly buttery finish. This wine is easy drinking, with an attractive weight and body. With tastes like these, its appeal is to drink now rather than cellar too long! The Vineyards: Our Rabbit Island vineyards are situated on a wide river flat. J Lohr RIVERSTONE Chardonnay Arroyo Secco Monterey California
Description: The 2001 vintage marked the fifteenth year of producing the Riverstone Chardonnay, from vineyards in the town of Greenfield in Monterey County. Each year, starting in 1995, Lohr have incorporated higher percentages of traditional Burgundian production techniques into Riverstone, until the desired complexity was achieved . This includes more malo-lactic fermentation and sur lie ageing with lees stirring, which in turn creates a wine of greater complexity and nuance. The vines are grown primarily on Elder loam soils underlain by riverstones deposited over thousands of years from the Arroyo Seco River, allowing a four-foot rooting zone that keeps the vine's vegetative growth and fruit in balance. Additionally, the cool climate and winds of the Salinas Valley extend the growing season and retain the natural grape acids and intense varietal character of the Chardonnay. The Riverstone Chardonnay is straw yellow in colour. The Arroyo Seco appellation terroir-based aromas of lime and grapefruit zest, nectarine, green apricots and wet stones are complemented by a smoky, butter, vanilla and toasted oak bouquet from the barrel fermentation and sur lie ageing. The flavours echo the aromas with citrus, stone fruits, butter, and smoky, toasty oak, producing layers of complexity with an excellent balance of acidity and palate weight. Available in Half Bottles.

Gonzalez Byass MATUSALEM Sweet Oloroso Sherry
Description: Ageing wines from Jerez takes place through the laborious, precise process known as the Criaderas y Solera system. In this process, the younger wines are blended slowly and methodically with other more mature ones. The older wines impart their flavour to the younger ones, while the latter freshen the former due to their youth and strength. Average age of these rare Old Solera sherries is approximately 30 years, 20 aged as vintage sherry and 10 in the solera system. All the grapes are from vineyards owned by González Byass in the Jerez Superior area. A dark Mahogany colour this sherry has reminders of well-ripened fruit, spices and fine wood. Smooth and sweet, while being notably silky, well-balanced and elegant. Available in half bottles. (6 x 37.5 cl)

Dopff au Moulin Riesling Grand Cru Schoenenbourg Alsace
Description: It was in the XVIIth century that Jean-Daniel Dopff, a minister's son, settled in Riquewihr as master-baker and innkeeper under the sign of The Stag. His son, Balthazard-Georges, born in Riquewihr in 1667, became master cooper and was thus the first to associate the name of Dopff with the wine professions. Four generations of Dopff succeeded each other in this line until Jean Dopff, two centuries later, took up the profession of 'gourmet', that is to say a wine merchant under oath. His son Jean Gustave took over the job, in his turn and dedicated himself to the task of building up the family domain. The Dopff enterprise was thus founded, and its history, closely linked to that of Riquewihr and its vineyards, was just beginning. Today, 3 generations manage the Dopff's estate: Pierre Dopff, the Managing Director, his son Pierre-Etienne, General Manager, and Etienne-Arnaud, Logistic and Development Manager, who was appointed at the beginning of the 1998 harvest. The temperatures of September and October play a major role in selecting when to harvest. The grapes become soft and ripe and the rate of sugar increases quickly, while the grape loses its acidity so the wine grower supervises the ripening cycle attentively. Teams of grape-pickers storm the vineyard. The ideal harvest starts in October. However a beautiful Autumn will perhaps allow gathering in November or December, qualities like Vendanges Tardives or even Sélections de Grains Nobles . Wine growers, first and foremost, Dopff uphold the rigourous ethics of their profession, which means that only natural wines from the best grapes are produce under their name and that they are lovingly tended following the traditional methods.
