J Lohr SEVEN OAKS Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles California
Description: The Cabernet Sauvignon was grown on the Arbuckle-Positas, Arbuckle-San Ysidro Complex and Nacimiento-Los Osos. The terrain is rolling grassland hills, dotted with Oaks , and in this case Seven Oaks. In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon 87% there is a little Merlot 11.1%, Petite Sirah 5.1%, Zinfandel 1.2%, Petite Verdot 1.2% and Syrah 0.7%. The vines are mostly own-rooted with a clonal selection from the old Estrella River Winery vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon clone evidences tiny berries with enticing forward fruit flavors. The 2001 vintage produced some outstanding red wines, although very similar to the vintage of 2000. However, it required longer grape hang time to achieve optimum development of colour, flavour and fragrance. Dark ruby-red in colour with youthful hues, the 2001 Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of black currants, cherry and violets. The bouquet is an elegant blend of spices (6 x 75 cl)

J Lohr LOS OSOS Merlot Paso Robles California
Description: The 2000 vintage was truly one of great patience! Despite early bud break, true ripening came very slow due to some unseasonably warm weather during the start of the growing season and several heat spike weeks. In 2000, it was a relatively cool final month of ripening, but fortunately there was a dry late Summer, throughout September. Merlot is the earliest of our Bordeaux varieties to ripen and reached beautiful flavour and color development on the 11th of September with harvest beginning the last Merlot was picked on the 27th at an average of 25.3 degrees brix.. The release of the 2000 Los Osos Merlot marks the fourth vintage from plantings of primarily French Merlot clones #181 and #314. Unlike ther softer, less tannic Cabernet Sauvignon, where fermentation beyond dryness can be desirable, Lohr quickly have learned that daily tasting in the last few days of alcoholic fermentation and pressing just before the tannins become Gripping is key to producing concentrated, yet supple Merlot. The 2000 vintage of Los Osos Merlot is moderately dark plum-red in color with complex red fruit aromas of dried cherries, blueberry, red currant and violet with a bouquet of coffee, chocolate, roasted nuts and toast. The 2000 vintage shows concentration with ripe, soft tannins that make it drinkable now but should develop beautifully with extended bottle ageing. (6 x 75 cl)

J Lohr RIVERSTONE Chardonnay Arroyo Secco Monterey California
Description: The 2003 vintage marks the seventeenth year of producing of our Riverstone Chardonnay, produced from our vineyards in the Arroyo Seco region in Monterey County. Each year, starting in 1995, J Lohr have incorporated higher percentages of traditional Burgundian production techniques into Riverstone, until the desired complexity was achieved . This includes more malo-lactic fermentation and sur lie ageing with lees stirring, which in turn creates a wine of greater complexity and nuance. The vines are grown primarily on Elder loam soils underlain by riverstones deposited over thousands of years from the Arroyo Seco river, allowing a four foot rooting zone that keeps the vine's vegetative growth and fruit in balance. Additionally, the cool climate and winds of the Salinas Valley extend the growing season and retain the natural grape acids and intense varietal character of the Chardonnay. Walking our vineyards in the Arroyo Seco in early September 2003 brought back memories of 1989. It was cold, very foggy and damp, with Chardonnay grape sugars running well behind normal. I was certain that harvest would not start until October
