| Description: |
 |
The Chardonnay is pale straw in colour with fresh perfumes of melon and ripe peaches, balanced by a nutty, toasty creaminess. It is still fresh on the palate, but has an attractive fullness. Fresh flavours carry through to the finish. The Hellfire Bay wines are made at Plantagenet with fruit sourced from various vineyards in Western Australia. Legend says that the first white settlers arriving in Western Australia believed they were sailing through the gates of hell as they watched St. Elmo’s fire light up the sky above them. As they prayed for mercy they named the area Hellfire Bay. The wines over-deliver in every way; they have wonderful fruit intensity and as a result haven’t had to resort to residual sugar, as too many wines at this price level do. The oak handling is evident, but it adds richness and intensity rather than masking inferior fruit. (12 x 75 cl)

Chocalan Estate Carmenere Maipo Valley Chile
Description: Intense violet colour with a delightful crimson rim this wine is showing ripe fruit with chocolate, coffee, blackberry jam, and black pepper on the nose to precede a palate that starts sweet with velvety tannins. Well-balanced acidity lends a nice freshness and heightens the fruity sensation. This is an elegant, well-balanced Carmenere with a long and flavorful finish. Chocalan's 80 hectares of vineyard are situated in the Maipo Valley, nestled between the Andes and the Coastal Mountain range. Proximity to the Pacific Ocean ensures the heat of the warm days is mitigated by the cool breezes funnelled down the valley at night. Laroche ROSE de la CHEVALIERE Syrah Grenache Merlot Vin de Pays d'Oc
Description: Tasting Note A gentle, dry rose with subtle raspberry and cherry aromas. The palate is bright and fresh with the fruit balanced perfectly by the crisp acidity in the finish. An impressive, restrained wine with real character. 12% Slightly darker than the pale barely-there rosés from Provencal but lighter on its feet than most New World pinks, Laroche's Rose de la Chevaliere is on superb form in 2006. In the meantime, it makes a fantastic partner for everything from charcuterie to seafood. A bit about Laroche Chablis producer Laroche have been champions of the South of France for over a decade, since they acquired Mas de Chevalier, near Beziers in 1995. A Mano Primitivo di Puglia
Description: 100% Primitivo showing incredible depth of colour this vintage, with perfumes of spicy, ripe, black cherries and a hint of liquorice on the nose. On the palate it is full-bodied while retaining a good balance between opulent fruit and elegant structure. A Mano Primitivo was first made in 1998. Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero, the duo behind A Mano, have worked in the wine business for most of their lives. Elvezia is a northern Italian winemarketing expert and Mark is a Californian winemaker. They knew right from the start that they wanted their wine to be a concentrated, dark coloured, full-bodied wine made from Primitivo. A Mano comes from the heart of the Primitivo area, in the low hills east of Taranto in Puglia. The region is an old sea-bed, full of fossilised clams, oysters and sea-urchins. The altitude here is approximately 30-60 metres above sea level and annual rainfall is 35 cms. Puglia is a pensinsula between the Adriatic and Ionian seas so the climate is classically Mediterranean. The Primitivo vines are quite old; most are the original plantings after phylloxera and range from 70-100 years old. As with most vineyards planted at that time they are small bush vines, called "alberello" and are non-irrigated. The average Primitivo vineyard is quite small, less than half a hectare. The grapes are hand-picked. (12 x 75 cl)

Cascina Pellerino DESIRE Arneis Roero DOCG
Description: An ancient variety grown near Alba in Piemonte recently saved from extinction by a few notable Barolo producers such Bruno Giacoso, Arneis is sometimes referred to as Barolo Bianco although never labelled as such. Difficult to grow because of its delicate skin, 'Arneis' in the regional dialect means 'whimsical.' It is often used as a blender to soften tannins in the red wines of the area, much as the French use Viognier in the Northern Rhone. The best bunches of the vineyards of Bricco della Salute are set aside to the production of Roero Arneis 'Desire'. The traditional wine-making provide for soft press of clusters after the harvesting and stalk stripping. The must extract is ferment with selected yeasts, they give fresh and fruit fragrance. After the alcoholic fermentation wine is left in steel tank for two months for the aging. Desire is a fresh, elegant and bright straw-coloured wine. The fruit fragrances, typical of this vineyard, are very intense and very elegant thanks to a careful vinification. It presents an excellent balance between softness and sourness, while the taste is persistent with a fresh note at the end. (6 x 75 cl)
