 |
Taking its name form the fortified town of Orvieto this is a clear, straw-like yellow coloured wine showing delicate, yet persistent aromas with floral hints of acacia and lime-blossom as well as fruit including ripe apple and hints of toasted bread. On the palate it is dry, fresh, well balanced through to the finish. Originating in 1926, when Piero and Gino Coli began their adventure at the gates of Florence. The Coli Brothers decided to seek out and sell the most traditional of wines produced in the Chianti hills, which were then and continue to be the Chianti and Chianti Classico Wines. As years passed, the Coli Wine Cellar expanded, and is now one of the most modern in all of Tuscany, thanks to the vision of the Coli family, who have succeeded in adapting their production methods to the changing developments in the wine market. J Lohr SEVEN OAKS Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles California
Description: The 2000 vintage was truly one of great patience! Despite early bud break, true ripening came very slow due to some unseasonably warm weather during the start of the growing season and several heat spike weeks. Dark ruby-red in colour, the 2000 Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of black cherry, currants, blueberry, violets and jammy black fruits. The bouquet is an elegant blend of cedar, mocha, cigar box and black olive. Showing ripe and ample tannins with a plump, concentrated structure supported by good aidity. Available in half bottles.

J Lohr RIVERSTONE Chardonnay Arroyo Secco Monterey California
Description: The 2003 vintage marks the seventeenth year of producing of our Riverstone Chardonnay, produced from our vineyards in the Arroyo Seco region in Monterey County. Each year, starting in 1995, J Lohr have incorporated higher percentages of traditional Burgundian production techniques into Riverstone, until the desired complexity was achieved . This includes more malo-lactic fermentation and sur lie ageing with lees stirring, which in turn creates a wine of greater complexity and nuance. The vines are grown primarily on Elder loam soils underlain by riverstones deposited over thousands of years from the Arroyo Seco river, allowing a four foot rooting zone that keeps the vine's vegetative growth and fruit in balance. Additionally, the cool climate and winds of the Salinas Valley extend the growing season and retain the natural grape acids and intense varietal character of the Chardonnay. Walking our vineyards in the Arroyo Seco in early September 2003 brought back memories of 1989. It was cold, very foggy and damp, with Chardonnay grape sugars running well behind normal. I was certain that harvest would not start until October

Robertson Winery ASHTON VINEYARD Sauvignon Blanc RSA
Description: 2004 was a slightly unusual harvest, with irregular weather patterns influencing ripening dramatically though overall quality was not adversely affected and volumes were slightly up on average. The preceding winter was cold enough for the vines to rest, but late rains and the ensuing weather conditions resulted in the whole harvest starting 2 weeks late. The unseasonal humid weather and thunder showers in January caused some problems in the early ripening varieties and the heat waves played havoc with sugar levels which meant the grapes were harvested even later than projected. However, 2004 will be remembered as a great vintage for red wines with good colour, great depth and an excellent fruit-acid balance, and whites with upfront fruit and a crisp acidity. Our Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted in deep cool alluvial soils on the riverbanks with a row direction from North West to South East to utilize the prevailing sea breeze. The sea breeze cools down the fruit, extends the ripening period and builds up concentrated flavours in the grapes. The Fruit was harvested very early in the morning from the last week of February to the middle of March from 43 specially selected grape growers in the Robertson Valley. Gentle pressing followed by using a pneumatic bag press to capture the delicate fruit component. The wine was made reductively to prevent any oxidation and to ensure that natural flavours of the grapes could be retained. Fermentation happened slowly in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for 18 days at 12ºC. Full-bodied wine with powerful varietal flavours of pineapple, granadilla, melon and green apple. Good structure with lovely balancing acidity. (12 x 75 cl)

Cesconi Pinot Grigio Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT
Description: The Pinot Grigio from Cesconi has a very intense but clean bouquet with hints of jasmine and white fruits. The palate is full, fat and creamy with delicious ripe pear fruits and gentle spice. As with all the Cesconi wines, this has a perfect balance and elegance with a long finish. It shows the elegance that the late growing season brought to white wines in this part of Italy, and this elegance is retained and highlighted by the move to a Stelvin closure. The four Cesconi brothers have transformed their family estate, situated in Trento, northeast Italy, in the past decade. Whereas they previously sold all their fruit to the local co-op, today they are making some of Italy's most exciting white wines. (6 x 75 cl)
