Alpha Zeta 'A' Amarone della Valpolicella Veneto
Description: Alpha Zeta was established with winemaker Matt Thompson in 1999. The original aim was quite simple: to produce mid-priced Veronese wines using fruit from selected vineyards rather than by buying and blending bulk wine from the various co-operatives. Over the years, Matt has developed a great relationship with a series of growers, and has convinced them to lower yields and pick later. This has resulted in riper and more flavoursome grapes. The grapes for these wines are sourced from vineyards in the Valpantena and Monteforte d'Alpone valleys, both of which are to the east of Verona. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, it is then Matt's job to ensure that these flavours are retained in the finished wine, and this he does admirably. These are modern, innovative wines that express the real quality inherent in Veronese viniculture. Rich and modern with an attractive fresh perfume it is dispalying aromas of ripe black cherry, plum and hints of fruit cake. On the palate it is full bodied and rich, with cherry, vanillin and coffee flavours. Well balanced tannins and long finish mark this wine out. (6 x 75 cl)

Alpha Zeta 'G' Garganega Veneto
Description: A wine that is medium bodied with flavours of ripe peaches, spice and hints of honeysuckle. It is an attractive, quaffable wine that will appeal to those looking for something new from Italy. It has been bottled young to preserve its fresh fruit character. Winemaker Matt Thomson has thinks this is the best vintage yet of Garganega that he has produced. The superb weather in September and October ensured that the late ripening Garganega grapes reached maturity in ideal conditions. It was then Matt's job to retain these flavours, something he has done admirably. Greater ripeness and more flavour were obtained by reducing yields and picking later. (12 x 75 cl)

Alphonse Mellot EN GRAND CHAMPS Rouge Sancerre
Description: At the beginning of the nineteenth century, Alphonse Mellot founded a tavern in Sancerre where one could savour the local wines and so began a flourishing trade that was to continue. In 1881 he was granted a licence to ship his wine throughout France and all over the World. Today, the old winemaking tradition is perpetuated by Alphonse Mellot, father and son, the 18th and 19th to bear the name. The grapes are picked by hand in small 25 Kg boxes then put onto a vibrating table and followed by a sorting table, here, the grapes will be sorted, stemmed and transported into the wine vats by conveyor belt. Alphonse Mellot LA MOUSSIERE Rouge Sancerre
Description: At the beginning of the nineteenth century, Alphonse Mellot founded a tavern in Sancerre where one could savour the local wines and so began a flourishing trade that was to continue. In 1881 he was granted a licence to ship his wine throughout France and all over the World. This marked the beginning of a pacific conquest which has been pursued and developed by the family business from father to son ever since, with the eldest son continuing to bear the name of the Founder Alphonse. Today, the old winemaking tradition is perpetuated by Alphonse Mellot, father and son, the 18th and 19th to bear the name. The wines are produced from the upper Sancerre vineyard, the most famous of which is the Domaine Le Moussiere. Its exceptional quality has led to it being officially classified as a unique category amongst the Sancerre wines. The Domaine Le Moussiere comprises one single vineyard of over thirty hectares. It's ideally exposed location with chalk soil and specific sub-soil are all perfect conditions for the cultivation of the vine. From South/South West and South/South East facing vineyards comes the Sancerre rouge La Moussiere, produced from young vines to be just like biting into the grapes themselves ripe and richly red, a wine that is both tender and vigorous. Harvested by hand every care is taken from the vineyard to the winery and thanks to a vibrating table followed by a sorting table, all grapes have been sorted, stemmed and transported into the wine vats by conveyor belt. Finally, it is fermented in 60 hl truncated wooden vats using 80 to 100% new casks for ageing on fine lees over a period varying between 10 and 18 months. This Pinot Noir is a very fine deep crimson colour while the nose has hints of small red and black fruit like raspberries, currants, mulberries and morello cherries, with spicy traces of pink peppercorns, vanilla and cinnamon. The mouth is mellow, well rounded and well structured with a woody background that has spicy traces and aromas of fruit. A wine long in the mouth it is high in alcohol and pleasant, a real winner. (12 x 75 cl)
