Eikehof Estate Old Bush Vine Semillon
Description: Encouraged by the Dutch East India Company to develop smaller settlements in the Cape, Gideon Malherbe, a French Huguenot arrived on the 13th April 1688. He immediately set out for the Berg River Valley, later to be known as the 'French Corner' or 'Franschhoek' to establish a suitable site for wine production. Francois Malherbe, the fourth generation family vigneron, has been in control of the estate since 1992, producing the traditional varieties planted by his forefathers. The flagship of the estate is the Bush Vine Semillon, harvested from 96 year old bush vines that are reputed to be the oldest in the production of wine, in all of South Africa. This is a full-on style: fat, vanilla, melon and butterscotch body balanced by a streak of firm acidity, with half the wine being fermented in new oak and the rest tank fermented then left on lees. A great wine to age for a few years. (12 x 75 cl)
