Plantagenet Great Southern Cabernet Sauvignon is an intense and deep red colour. Aromas of blueberries and sweet raspberries combine with smoky oak characters on the nose. On the palate intense berry flavours are supported by soft and silky tannins. The wine finishes long and fresh with hints of spicy oak. The Plantagenet winery is located in the Mount Barker township, a sub-district of the Great Southern region in Western Australia. The area is famous for its premium quality wine production, the cool-climate ensuring the slow ripening of the grapes which enhances fruit composition and flavours. Description: From small beginnings nearly 30 years ago, Plantagenet Wines is now one of the most well respected Western Australian wineries, consistently producing quality wines from the Great Southern region. Mahogny in colour this wine is showing aromas of Blackberry, currant and plums while the 6 months bottle ageing provides cigar box vanilla and a hint of thyme and sage. Legend says that the first white settlers arriving in Western Australia believed they were sailing through the gates of hell as they watched St. Elmo’s fire light up the sky above them. As they prayed for mercy they named the area Hellfire Bay. The wines over-deliver in every way; they have wonderful fruit intensity and as a result haven’t had to resort to residual sugar, as too many wines at this price level do. Plantagenet OMRAH Pinot Noir Western Australia
Description: Plantagenet is one of Western Australia's top names, and I am a huge fan of their wines, having awarded "wine of the week" to the Omrah Shiraz recently. This Pinot Noir weighs in wiith a hefty 14.5% alcohol, so is no wishy-washy wine. It spends 10 months in French oak barrels too, giving it a very spicy, quite Burgundian character. On the nose it has masses of cloves, cinammon and hints of tobacco, with a lovely, soft layering of strawberies and cream fruit. On the palate it is silky and medium-bodied, with an initial burst of sweet-edged cherry, strawberry and vanilla, before an earthier, truffle and hedgerow quality sweeps through. With polished background tannins and some fine cherry acidity, this is a really well balanced and elegant wine with a long, lingering, sweet finish, despite that powerful alcohol. (6 x 75 cl)
