Dean Hewitson NED & HENRY Shiraz Barossa Valley

Name: Dean Hewitson NED & HENRY Shiraz Barossa Valley
Where it's from:  Australia, South Australia, Barossa Valley
Price per case: £165.60
Bottles per case: 12 x 75 cl
Style: Powerful Reds
Description: The colour of 2006 Ned & Henry's is deep red with a purple hue. The aroma is distinctively Barossa Valley: black and red, ripe fruits with a solid, concentrated core. Matured in only French oak, the fruit is interwoven with pepper, nutmeg and clove. The seamless class of perfectly ripe fruit and French oak is a stand-out here. The palate structure of Ned & Henry's delivers in every aspect of the brief. The fruit flavours are full and concentrated yet soft and supple. The tannins are gentle yet persistent and completely mould into the wine. Ned & Henry's is most definitely full-bodied: chocolate, blackberry and dark-earth characters. Yet the wine has great balance and poise and carries that signature called 'drinkability' Superbly sited vineyards grown on red soil over limestone, the classic terra rossa, provide the fruit for Ned & Henry's. These vineyards are traditionally grown, low-cropped and produce the necessary flavours and tannins for our wine. After traditional fermentation the wine is pressed into quality French barriques, where the wine finishes fermentation and malo-lactic fermentation. The wine matures in these barrels for a total of about 15 months before racking. While the base wine has always been Shiraz, each year I have blended a small proportion of Mourvèdre with the Shiraz, which accentuates the fruit and delivers a greater complexity. (12 x 75 cl)

Rozes INFANTA ISABEL 10 Year Tawny Port
Description: In 1855, Ostende Rozes, a fine wine trader in Bordeaux, established the Rozes house. The reputation of the firm's Port wines spread due to their quality. Ostende's son, Edmond Rozes, created the Rozes Port wine brand and was largely responsible for its unique style. Here he created a special, thickset bottle, which is now the brand's symbol and emblem all over the world. After more than 120 years of family ownership, and other successive owners, the firm was acquired by Vranken Monopole in 1999. Rozes differs considerably from the English and Portuguese port wine houses. True to their Bordeaux heritage, Rozes Port wines are elegant, complex and balanced, less fruity and tannic than those of the English style and more generous and richer than those of the Portuguese producers. Produced in the oldest AOC of all, Quinta de Monsul, the Rozes estate in the Douro, allows complete control of pressing, storing and ageing, right from the harvest. The grapes are selected from amongst the very best vineyards in the Douro valley, while the reputation of the Rozes name means that there is a dedicated commitment to express all of the intensity, richness and complexity of each varietal. This port is blend from carefully selected wines matured for at least ten years in oak, Rozes Infanta Isabel is a classic Tawny Port that has gained delicacy with age. Deep rich mahogany coloured wine with a slight orange hue, it has a vibrant bouquet made of dried apricots, figs and fresh Seville oranges combined with walnuts. The palate is delicate, complex, mature and still delightfully fresh, finely textured with a smooth silky finish. (6 x 75 cl)
