Nowhere is Spain's vinous renaissance more apparent than in the tiny DOC of Priorat, close to Tarragona and Barcelona. High up in the hills around the town of Falset, lies one of the most geographically spectacular regions in Spain. Vertiginous vineyards that you actually need a ladder to climb, vines sticking out at right angles from 'soil' consisting of nothing but slate and shale and old, old vines contribute to very low yields and ultra concentrated wines. Priorat's explosion onto the world wine scene is a sure testament to the amazing naturally occurring growing conditions found there. This wine is a blend of Garnacha 70% and Carinena 30% from 15 year old vines and has spent 8 months in french oak barrels. A lively blend it is medium to full bodied with bright, spicy, juicy fruit character and succulent texture. It's immensely well balanced and is a great example of modern priorat wine. (12 x 75 cl)

Botalcura EL DELIRIO Reserva Chardonnay Viognier Maule Valley Chile
Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. The winery is named after the town it is based in, Botalcura, near Talca, about 3 hours south of Santiago, in the coastal mountain range that forms the Maule Valley. Additionally, the word Botalcura means Large Stone in Mapundungun, the language of the Mapuche people of southern Chile. To complement the fruit grown on the company's own vineyards, grapes are sourced from the best areas of Chile, selecting those that fully express the intense, particular characteristics of the soils and climates from which they originate. Here great care is taken from hand picking the grapes only in the morning hours to keep fruit cool in the vine yard to winery where 30% of the wine spent six months in one- and two-year-old oak barrels before release. This is an uncomplicated wine for everyday enjoyment. It brings together the respective charms of Chardonnay and Viognier: the first provides voluptuousness in the mouth and the second, the intensity of flavours. Notes of wood appear at the end and reveal ageing in oak barrels. The result is a captivating and original blend with solid fruit expression and a soft, but full mouthfeel. This wine is a blend of Chardonnay 66%/Viognier 34% showing a pale yellow coloured wine with transparent reflects. The attractive nose recalls white tree fruits such as apricot, melon and green plum, joined by notes of mandarin and butter accents, delicately balanced with toasted almonds and vanilla. Soft and attractive, with broad balance on the mid-palate, delicate tannin structure through to a semi long finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Botalcura LA PORFIA Grand Reserva Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Chile
A part of the Vina Botalcura land was christened many years ago with the name La Porfia. This expression alludes to those who have tenacity and perseverance, qualities that fit perfectly with the spirit in which our Grand Reserve wines are made. The wines are aged for 1 year in French and American oak, and are then bottle aged for a further year before they are released from the winery. The grapes are grown in the coastal climate of the Casablanca Valley which features morning fog that burns off by midday, hot afternoons, and soft ocean breezes in the early evening, which produce very cool nights throughout the growing season. The marked difference in daytime and night time temperatures favours the development of the characteristic aromas of the Chardonnay grape. This has produced a medium-deep golden coloured wine with pale yellow highlights. Aromas of white peach are complemented by crisp pink grapefruit and a light tropical component, while soft notes of vanilla, honey and toasted almond can be noted. This grand reserve offers a beautiful expression of the variety grown in the cool Casablanca Valley, with its characteristic white peach and tropical aromas. Fermentation in French oak barrels integrated the notes of vanilla and toast while on the mouth, the rich, buttery texture is brightened by good acidity, resulting in well-balanced, elegant Chardonnay with a long, smooth finish. (12 x 75 cl)
