Chateau Gruaud-Larose 2eme Cru Classe Saint Julien
Description: Dating back to 1725, the estate was grouped into a number of small vineyards and in 1757 Mr. Gruaud formed one large one, under his name. Eventually a descendant of the first owner took over the property, his name was Larose, and he immediately linked his name to the estate, it was subsequently purchased by Mr Desire Cordier in 1915. By 1997 Chateau Gruaud Larose, after several other owners, was purchased by another traditional Bordeaux family, the Merlauts. The winemaking team at Chateau Gruaud Larose is now overseen by Jacques Merlaut's son, Jean, and He puts the wine through a cold-soak prior to temperature controlled fermentation in wooden and concrete vats. Up to a third of the vintage undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, before ageing the entire wine in oak for eighteen months. Gruaud Larose is one of St. Julien's most popular and prestigeous wines. Its production has a quality that is consistently high and one of the most continuously successful wines produced in Bordeaux, regardless of vintage. The 1993 vintage is a vibrant, purple-red coloured wine, with aromas dominated by oak. A Medium bodied palate with a creamy edged texture and a good tanninic structure especially on the finish. Chateau La Cardonne Cru Bourgeois Medoc
Description: Les Domaines CGR is a venture between Chateau de la Cardonne, Chateau Griviere and Chateau Ramafort who provide the initials for this company. Purchased by Les Domaines CGR in 1990 the Chateau is built on the highest plateau in the Medoc region. The vineyards are on sandy gravely soil, planted with vines as early as the 17th century and slopes gently down to the River. The vineyard extends to the communes from Blaignan, Odonnac and Prignac and this wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Great care is taken in the vineyard and this is continued in the winery where fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks before ageing 12 months in oak casks at the underground cellars. This wine has an engaging crimson colour with pretty reflections of ruby. The bouquet offers a ripe fruit pallet as well as a little spice and finely wooded characteristics. The attack in mouth is full, almost sweetened, with raspberry and blackberry flavours which mix with vanilla. Finally, the tanins with the silky grains support the elegant finish. (12 x 75 cl)
