Pierre Clement Domaine du Chatenoy Menetou-Salon
Description: As far back as 1560, Sébastian Clément was a wine grower with an excellent reputation in the Loire Valley. But it was in 1709 that the Clément family acquired the Domaine de Châtenoy. Today, Domaine de Châtenoy is one of the major producers of wine in the small appellation of Menetou-Salon, East of Sancerre. The estate includes over 40 hectares of vines, planted on the Kimmerigian clay hillsides of the area. The plantings are mainly Sauvignon Blanc , with 20% Pinot Noir. Pierre Clément, who has run the estate since taking over from his father Bernard in 1985, is a perfectionist and an innovator, always experimenting with new vinification techniques and striving to produce the purist possible expressions of the Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grapes. Menetou is the lesser known of the three towns in the world famous Sauvignon Blanc heartland of the Loire valley. Although Menetou is not as recognisable a name as Sancerre or Pouilly, you will certainly recognise the style of this mineraly, smokey Sauvignon Blanc. Traditionaly made with no oak contact and a temperature controlled, cold fermentation in stainless steel vats. This Sauvignon Blanc has lively citrus and grassy herb aromas, while the palate is medium to light in body, dry with good limey acidity that magnifies the citrus and mineral characters. Lengthy, clean and absolutely no oak on this 100% Sauvignon Blanc. (6 x 75 cl)

Description: A domaine is not the sum of their interests. It is the sum of their gifts. St. Exupery’s beautiful words could have been written for the Sabons, proprietors of Domaine de la Janasse. Aimé Sabon first established his cellar in 1973 and now owns a total of 50ha including 13ha in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The best sites are planted on a mix of galet stones, sands and clay and provide exceptional fruit. Since taking over the winemaking from his father in 1991, Christophe Sabon has set this 45 hectare property on the road to becoming the Beaucastel of the future. Tiny yields from the old vines give great intensity of fruit, while the flavours are preserved by temperature control, and expertly sculpted by judicious us of barrique. Christophe’s talent is to express the brightness and intensity of the grape, and capture all the nuances of terroir. Sourced from the single vineyard 'Bussiere' which is a mix of galet stones, sands and clay. The vines yield a respectably low 45hl/ha and are hand harvested. Ageing is in 30% new barriques for 12 months. A blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon this wine is a beautiful example of Southern French grape varieties; rich in colour with ripe, red fruit, well-married tannins and herbaceous, spicy flavours full of southern warmth.
