Giovanni Allegrini Recioto Classico is a blend of 75% Corvina Veronese, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara. It has good depth of ruby red colour, with perfumes of dried cherries and a touch of spice from the oak ageing. On the palate the wine is sweet, but crucially not cloying, with good intensity of dark, almost fruit cake flavours and remarkable power. The wine has excellent length, with perfumes of spiced, dried cherries on the finish. The southeast facing vineyards are situated in the hills of the Valpolicella Classico region and are 240m above sea level where the soils are mostly calcareous and cretaceous. The average age of the vines is 26 years old. The grapes were hand-harvested and then dried naturally for 5 months at the ‘Terre di Fumane’ drying centre that was conceived and built by Franco Allegrini. During the drying period, 50% of the original weight of the grapes was lost. The Allegrini family estate encompasses 70 hectares of vineyard situated in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area. The Allegrini family have been growing grapes in Valpolicella for several generations, though the estate in its current form was founded by Giovanni Allegrini. When he died in 1983, the estate passed to his three children who ran it together until Walter’s death in July 2003. Franco now looks after the vineyards and is the winemaker, and Marilisa is director of marketing. (6 x 50 cl)

Bodegas Pinord CLOS 15 Merlot Penedes
Description: Dark violet in colour with a brilliant appearance. The first impression is of extremely intense aromas, especially smoked and roasted fare, coffee and truffles. But as you move the wine around in the glass, fruits such as raspberry and ginger begin to emerge. In the mouth it has body, moderate alcohol and strength. The tannins, which have been rounded out by their period in the bottle, stand out. The smoothness due to the ageing in oak barrels has been accentuated over time and the aromas of crystallised fruits have come to the fore. (12 x 75 cl)

Stadt Krems GRILLENPARZ Riesling Kremstal
Description: The Weingut Stadt Krems is an ancient estate owned by the town of Krems with over 32 hectares of vineyards. Its land has come from two main sources. In 1210 the Babenberger Duke Leopold VI founded a Citizen's Hospital in Krems and bequeathed it a large amount of vineyards. In 1452 more land was bequeathed to the estate by the Imperial Burgrave Ulrich von Dachsberg. Until 1744 the wines were made in the gothic vaults of the town hall but for the past couple of centuries have been produced in a more modern, convenient facility, with vinification carried out in stainless steel, temperature controlled tanks to maintain freshness and clarity in the wines. The Kremstal region produces some of Europe's finest dry Rieslings (12 x 75 cl)

Gallo Family Vineyards ESTATE Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County
Description: Winemaking has been a tradition in the Gallo family for almost 70 years and the Estate bottled range is one of their flagship wines. The grapes were specifically selected by the Gallo winemakers from one of their family vineyards, Stefani Vineyard, located in Sonoma County. Sonoma is situated 100 km north of San Francisco, west of Napa, and alongside the Pacific Ocean. In the northern region of Sonoma County lies Dry Creek Valley, where Stefani Vineyard rests in the central corridor. Vines were first planted here by the Stefani family at the turn of the century. The soil consists of as much as 30% gravel and small stones, a combination of Pleasanton and Clough series. Today, this unique climate/soil combination produces Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with intense cassis and black cherry aromas complemented by cedary, spicy flavours in the finish. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were 100% estate grown and hand harvested. To intensify varietal character, Gallo employed site-specific vertical trellising, and used meticulous shoot and leaf removal to ensure the grape clusters received just the right amount of sunlight exposure for optimal ripening. The hand-harvested clusters were de-stemmed but not crushed, to increase the percentage of whole berries in the fermenter and reduce the potential for bitter tannin extraction. Once dry, the free-run wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels for an average of 21 months to enhance bouquet, flavour and body. The wine completed malolactic fermentation, and was bottled unfined and with minimal filtration. This Ernest & Julio Gallo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied wine with firm tannins and a deep red colour. It exhibits complex layers of black cherry and plum aromas enhanced by spicy notes on a long finish. (6 x 75 cl)
