Seven gentlemen, on august 23, 1933, set an appointment in the offices of Francesco Betteloni, notary public, to sign the deed giving birth to the Cantina Sociale Valpolicella. Today, the Cantina Valpolicella directs and coordinates the production of approximately 200 grape-growers with vineyards covering a total of 450 hectares. All these are located in the classic Valpolicella hillside zone. All have the same dedication and passion as the original founders. They work together and in their mutual interests to turn member producer's grapes into high quality wines, performing activities that improve winemaking and grape-growing knowledge and culture. The vineyards are situated on about 450 hectares in the classical Valpolicella Hills area Northwest of Verona, which are mostly concentrated in the town of Negrar. The most used system of cultivation is the traditional Pergola system, with about 2,500-3,000 plants per hectare, while the average age of the vines is 20 years. The cultivation of the vineyard has among its primary objectives the maximum possible degree of respect for nature: for this reason, biological techniques are used, and pesticides are used as little as possible. A blend of Corvina 65%, Rondinella 20%, Molinara 5%, and Corvinone 10% this wine is made from grapes located in the heart of the classic Valpolicella zone on the Negrar hills. The harvest is done entirely by hand, with many selections for special wines, such as the Amarone, produced from single vineyards to exalt its characteristics. This wine is a ruby red colour with hints of violets. The bouquet is a combination of red fruits with sweet tannin while the vinous and spicy palate is well balanced, full bodied and velvet (6 x 75 cl)

The family invested a lot of time in producing good wine and their efforts were rewarded when the Chateau was included in the 1855 Classification. 40% new barrels. Parker, 90. (12 x 75 cl)

John Duval PLEXUS Barossa Valley South Australia
Description: The Plexus is a blend of 50% Shiraz, 34% Grenache and 16% Mourvedre. It is a vibrant, deep crimson red-purple colour, with a fragrant, spicy nose, combining a range of red fruits and subtle oak characters. On the palate, the wine is an attractive blend of red and black fruits with a variety of spices. The wine has ripe, fine tannins and good concentration which provide structure, length and a seamless balance. The Shiraz was sourced from old vines to the north of the valley, in the Stockwell, Light Pass, Ebenezer and Marananga regions. The Grenache was from 50-60 year old bush vines from Stockwell, Light Pass and the Rowland Flat regions. The Mourvedre was from bush vines, of which the oldest was more than 100 years old, growing in the Light Pass and Angaston regions. The aim of Plexus is to express the wide spectrum of red fruit flavours from Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre, but also to provide serious structure with a seamless balance and a long finish. A low percentage of new oak adds subtle complexity and allows the berry fruit flavours to shine through in the wine. John Duval was head winemaker at Penfolds until 2002, during which time he was the ‘custodian’ of Grange, a role he inherited from the great Max Schubert. After leaving Penfolds, John set out on his own with the 2003 vintage, sourcing fruit from some long-time friends in the Barossa. The Plexus is sealed under both cork and stelvin; allowing consumers the choice to eliminate the risk of cork taint. (6 x 75 cl)
