Description: Overview: A long and late ripening period of short sunny days and cold nights has enhanced the typically vibrant flavours of the Marlborough Region. Tasting Notes: A lifted and lively bouquet combining herbal/fennel aromas with gooseberry and bell pepper. The palate is sweet fruited and rich, flavours of gooseberry , pea and tropical fruit are apparent. The wine has good weight and a lingering yet crisp finish. Production Notes: After harvest the grapes were quickly crushed and pressed into stainless steel tanks where the juice was fermented at controlled cool temperatures to capture the intense varietal flavours. Description: Located in Stellenbosch, the farm of Welmoed was first granted to Governor Simon van der Stel in 1690. Over the years, many great wines have been produced in the Welmoed Cellar. Today, Welmoed maintains its proud winemaking tradition and has built up a solid reputation both in the South Africa and selected international markets with Welmoed’s distinctive carefully-crafted approach. Once harvested, the wine is pressed off skins just prior to dryness to preserve fruitiness and softness of tannins. This is followed by a malolactic fermentation after which a part of the wine is matured in French oak barrels.
