Mud House SWAN Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough NZ
Description: John Joslin was a farmer in Essex and also had a business in Belgium. Together, with his wife Jennifer, they decided to sell up and cruise the world in their custom built yacht 'Dancing Wave'. They did this for six years before dropping anchor in New Zealand. After one visit to Marlborough the yacht was sold and 20 acres in the heart of the wine growing region was bought. Marlborough was chosen for its international reputation as a premium wine-growing region with one of the longest ripening periods in the world. The vineyard was named 'Le Grys' which was Jennifer's maiden name and planted varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Finally. a unique Mud block house was built in the vineyard and hence the name of the company was born and in 1996 the first vintage was released. This wine is made from a 50:50 blend of two batches of grapes. One came from a new block harvested for the first time near the mouth of the Awatere river, known as the Castles. The other from a Mud House run vineyard on Conders Bend, very close to the original Mud House Vineyard where it all started. The grapes were machine harvested under cool early morning conditions, pressed immediately, and the resulting juice was fermented very cool retaining all the fruit characters and aromatics, without introducing harsh skin characters that result from warm handling or skin contact. This is a pale straw coloured Sauvignon Blanc with intense passionfruit and currant aromas showing notes of mineral characters. (12 x 75 cl)

Althaus DOMAINE A Pinot Noir Tasmania
Description: Peter and Ruth Althaus' 20ha property in the Coal River Valley in Southern Tasmania is truly remarkable in that the Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc that it produces is not just high quality but is truly of world class. Here they are producing not only the 'Stoney Vineyard' but the 'Domaine A' range of wines. Peter Althaus was formerly a business man with IBM, working in Geneva. Having developed a palate for fine European wine and a curiosity for how he could set about making it, the Althaus' set about finding a vineyard site with potential to make outstanding wines. Virtually all of the European sites had already been identified so the search was extended to the Southern hemisphere. Peter long favoured the Central Otago region of New Zealand but eventually settled on the tiny 1 hectare property that today forms Domaine A. Since 1989, when they took over the Domaine, planting has increased to 20 hectares and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc. Vines are densely planted and the sloping North/North East aspect coupled with a temperate maritime climate ensures that the grapes have a long, cool growing season (12 x 75 cl)

Louis Michel et Fils Grand Cru VAUDESIR Chablis
Description: Domaine Louis Michel is a leading family owned vineyard in Chablis with a reputation for consistently and high quality on the 45 acre estate. Up until 1970 the wines were fermented and matured in oak barrels. By 1980 the oak was discarded for stainless steel and Domaine Louis Michel is now widely recognised as the prime exponents of unoaked Chablis in the region. The soils of the area are rich with Kimmeridgian limestone that provides the character for this wine. Vinified in stainless steel tanks with no barrel ageing, the objective is to make wines which reflect the distinctiveness of the vineyards from which they are produced. A Chablis with a pale yellow colour and fruity aromas. Fruit weight, balance and flavour complexity are the hallmarks of this gerat wine from Domaine Louis Michel with a surprisingly long dry finish.
