Sean Thackrey’s has a slightly ramshackle winery in cool Bolinas, just north of San Francisco. Something of an independently minded intellectual, he makes wines to please himself and hence the unconventional range of wines. One of the oldest vineyards in Marin County is Devil's Gulch Vineyard, owned and farmed by Mark Pasternak. 'Marin is clearly cooler then Carneros or Santa Barbara, more like the Sonoma Coast around Freestone,' says Pasternak. He adds that 'because of these cool growing conditions Marin Pinots are more elegant, with more black fruit nuances.' Sean Thackrey is one of the producers that purchase Pinot Noir from Devil's Gulch vineyrad and he has produced a rich dense ruby coloured wine showing plum and blackberry aromas. In the mouth the plumy fruit flavours develop while french oak characters are evident in this well structured Pinot Noir that has a mouth coating finish. Limited Availability. (12 x 75 cl)

Cillar de Silos TORRE SILO Ribera del Duero DO
Description: Cillar de Silos' 48ha of vineyards are situated in the areas of Quintano del Pidio and Gumiel de Mercado. Nestling amongst the forests and on the slopes, these vines produce yields no higher than 3.5 tonnes per hectare, ensuring fully ripened fruit and, in turn, produce wines of a great character. Unlike many wines from Ribera, which suffer from a hardness that goes to the core, Cillar de Silos has great structure and firmness but it is swathed up in the silkiest of clothes. Low yielding vines, ripe fruit and then barrel fermentation and maturation all lead to a wine with great texture and charm. 100% Tempranillo this wine has spent 16 months in french oak and this has produced a lovely red coloured wine with elegent complex ripe fruit aromas. Well balanced with good structure and tannin this sophisticated wine has a persistent finish. (12 x 75 cl)

La Spinetta IL NERO DI CASANOVA Sangiovese IGT
Description: The Rivetti family story begins in the 1890s, when Giovanni Rivetti, grandfather of the three Rivetti brothers, Carlo, Bruno and Giorgio, left Piedmont for Argentina. Like many Italians of that time, he dreamed of returning rich and a powerful man, perhaps even one day able to make a great wine in his homeland. He never did, though his son, Giuseppe did. Pin married Lidia, bought vineyards and began to make wine. In 1977 the family took up residence at La Spinetta in Castagnole Lanze and still run the estate today. Made from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino this wine is aged entirely in medium toasted French oak for 9 months then transfered to stainless steal vats for 2 months before bottling. Finally, it is aged in bottles for another 2 months and released 13 months after harvest. This is an intense ruby red coloured wine with scents of ripe berries, vanilla and coffee. Full bodied with sweet tannins, impeccably balanced fruit, wood and acidity culminates in a fine finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Brown Brothers PATRICIA Chardonnay King Valley Victoria
Description: The Patricia Chardonnay is a modern style balancing natural acidity and elegance with intense fruit flavour. 55% of the fruit is from the Brown Brothers Whitlands vineyard. The balance of the fruit is from Jarrot's vineyard which is situated at an elevation of 500m in the King Valley, not far from the Whitlands vineyard. The long, cool growing season gives elegance and some mineral characters to the wine. The vineyard selection contributes to a tight style with wonderful fig and mealy characters typical of a cool climate chardonnay. The palate displays fine natural acidity and excellent length.
