Chateau L'Evangile Pomerol Bordeaux
Description: HISTORY Chateau l'Evangile has a distinguished history of stunning vintages and produces wines of great depth. The late, passionately devoted Louis Ducasse administered the estate for many years, and his formidable wife Madame Ducasse continued the tradition with equal fervor well into her 90's. Realizing the chateau's unlimited potential, the Rothschild family purchased a controlling interest in the estate in 1990. VINIFICATION The 35 acre vineyard is brilliantly situated on deep gravelly soil mixed with clay and sand. Late harvesting lowers yields but produces rich, concentrated wines. The proportion of new oak barrels used for aging runs to 50% or even higher. STYLE The outstanding Chateau l'Evangile has one of the best reputations in Pomerol, which it well deserves. The mature wine shows a rich, full-bodied nose of black fruits , chocolate, toffee, and roasted herbs. The complex bouquet accompanies a medium acidity typical of Merlot-based wines and ripe, plush flavors of compelling richness. Most vintages have strong tannins, giving Chateau l'Evangile one of Pomerol's best potential aging profiles of six to twenty-five or even more years following the vintage. A quality equivalent to that of a Medoc first growth gives this hard-to-find wine the potential to be one of the area's big stars even in lesser vintages. (12 x 75 cl)

Dominus Estate DOMINUS CHRISTIAN MOUEIX Napa Valley
Description: Dominus is made solely from grapes grown on the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, California. Produced in the heart of Napa Valley by Christian Moueix and his team, since 1983, their goal has been to express the unique terroir found at the historic Napanook Vineyard. Dominus has become known since its first release for its complexity and earthy character, which pay tribute to the Napanook terroir. Christian Moueix truly believes that producing a wine begins in the vineyard. For that reason, each vintage is unique with different varietal blends reflecting the vineyard and climate conditions of that particular year. 1998 was an 'el Niño' vintage, resulting in a cool climate throughout the Napa Valley. Thanks to their French experience, Christian Moueix and his team knew immediately how to react. The very heavy rainfall from November 1997 through May 1998, combined with a rather cool spring, caused an extremely long blooming period and a very late harvest. Persistent and severe crop thinning allowed the remaining grapes to reach their full maturity during the unexpectedly warm month of September. A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot has produced aromas of cherry, raspberry, smoked meat, roasted tomato, earth and tobacco leaf. An earthy, elegant and refined Cabernet blend, delivering layers of currant, tar, black cherry, cedar, coffee and anise, all sharply focused and framed by just the right amount of tannin. Limited Availability. (6 x 75 cl)

Matua Valley BULLRUSH Merlot Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: Pleasant aromas of integrated oak and ripe black currants dominate the entry into this fine Merlot. The palate consists of black cherry and blueberry flavours with a spicy edge. The finish is soft and rich with grainy tanning and a layer of spicy oak, which lingers subtly. The fruit selected to produce this fine Merlot was grown in the Hawkes Bay region, on the East coast of New Zealand. The Bullrush vineyard is situated in the red metals triangle area, which is renown for its red metal soils and production of high quality red wine varieties. The vineyard uses vertical shoot positioned trellis on which to train the vines and these are pruned to maintain a production of three to four tonnes per acre. Leaf removal in the fruit band to expose the grapes to sunlight and free flow of air has been an important factor in maximising flavour development. Matua Valley Wines began as a small, family-run winery in West Auckland, New Zealand, in 1973. In the next few years, winemakers Ross and Bill Spence quickly gained a reputation for innovative, award-winning New Zealand wines (12 x 75 cl)

Fairview GOATS DO ROAM Red RSA
Description: The Goats do Roam Red is a blend primarily of Shiraz and Pinotage with Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Merlot, Carignan, Gamay and Cabernet being used to achieve a consistent style across vintages. The wine was lightly oaked before being carefully blended and bottled. Vibrant brick red in colour, the wine has an attractive perfume of ripe red fruit, with a fragrant lift of liquorice and spice. The fruit follows through to the palate, with smooth, ripe tannins and nicely balanced acidity. Most of the fruit for Goats do Roam Red is sourced from a 300ha farm on the south-west-facing slopes of Paarl Mountain. This is a granite rock outcrop in the heart of the Paarl wine district, viticulturally among the most historic and influential areas of the Cape winelands. (12 x 75 cl)
