Il Poggiolo IN RIVA AL FOSSO Rosso di St Antimo DOC
Description: Each year Poggiolo select the optimum Brunello di Montalcino vineyard. Here great care from the vineyard to the winery is taken to produce a small quantity of In Riva Al Fosso. In the vineyard they commence the final pruning some 30 days prior to the harvest, next they sever 50% of the crop at the vine and allow these to wither on the vine until they are harvested together with the remaining grapes. Once in the winery fermentation is undertaken and vinification in Oak Tonneau of 500 lt with manual circulation of the must rather than mechanical pumping occurs. Finally, ageing in 500 litre wooden vats takes place for 1 year, here, the vats are purpose built using three different types of wood and replaced each year. (6 x 75 cl)

Description: This family estate in the Northern Rhone has forged an enviable reputation for supple, generous wines. Previously a member of the local co-op the Belle family have rapidly made a name for themselves as a producer to watch. The domaine extends to 19 hectares in 4 communes and two appellations, Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage. The red wines are produced traditionally using whole bunches of grapes and extended maceration. They are then matured in oak for between 12 and 18 months with 20 to 25% new barrels each year. The premium cuvee from this highly regarded producer, Cuvee Louis Belle is made from parcels of low yielding syrah grapes grown in the famous Larnage area. It is very concentrated with rich, savoury, ripe dark fruit. Richly textured with creamy tannins and restrained spicy wood, this wine has a long complex finish. Available in Magnum Bottles. In the palate the wine shows great structure, with firm tannins, fruity flavours with a rich complexity and delightful persistence.
