Chateau Margaux PAVILLON ROUGE de CHATEAU MARGAUX Margaux
Description: Chateau Margaux may trace its origins back as far as the 12th Century when there was no sign of any viticulture. It was owned by French nobility, and was known as La Mothe de Margaux meaning a small rise in the land. It was not until the Lestonnac family took possession of the estate that it began to resemble the modern day Chateau Margaux. In the ten years that followed 1572, Pierre Lestonnac, in anticipation of a change from arable agriculture to viticulture on the Medoc, made dramatic changes to the estate. By the beginning of the 18th Century Chateau Margaux comprised 265 ha, of which one third was devoted to viticulture. Today the estate has changed very little in size or layout. The wines are fermented in oak vats, and the reds see up to two years maturation in oak, in general, though, Pavillon Rouge is bottled three to four months earlier than Chateau Margaux. The second wine Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux has a production of about 16500 cases per year. The growing season was very wet in 2001, and as a result the flowering of the vines went quick and evenly. During the entire summer, there were unusually alternate periods of hot and cold, dry and wet weather, which encouraged vegetation growth and slowed ripening. The havest was delayed to 1st October when the grapes are manually harvested and sorted. This wine has developed early and it is considered that the growing season has been responsible as the grapes were picked at the perfeect ripeness. In general, though, Pavillon Rouge is bottled three to four months earlier than Chateau Margaux and this wine has a remarkable length of palate with an overall firm but soft impression, confiming it as a very fine vintage. Similar to the 1999, it has great aromatic finesse and its tannic texture is tender and harmonious. (12 x 75 cl)

Col d'Orcia CHIANTI GINEPRONE DOCG
Description: A generous full-bodied style of Chianti produced in the Montalcino Area of Southern Tuscany. Soft, smoky flavours combine with round tannins and a touch of oak. The Col d’Orcia Estate covers some 525 hectares near Sant’Angelo in Colle in the southern part of Montalcino, including 80 ha of vineyards and 100 hectares of olive groves. Col d’Orcia is one of Montalcino’s most dynamic wineries, with massive investment in cellar technology and vineyard research. Thanks to consultant Maurizio Castelli and enologist Mario Olivero, the wines are in the modern vein: Brunello di Montalcino has the classic tarry complexity but with a supple structure of fruit and soft tannins. The cru Poggio al Vento comes from 4 hectares vineyard and is widely considered one of the finest modern expressions of Brunello. Rosso di Montalcino is excellent value with delicious ripe strawberry flavour. Ghiaie Bianche is one of the finest of Tuscany’s new crop of oak-fermented Chardonnays: now with a better balance between ripe fruit and toasty oak (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau Pavie 1er Grand Cru Classe B Saint Emilion
Description: This property has an ancient history and the first vines are known to have been planted as far back as the 4th century. Ferdinad Bouffard brought Pavie back to full production after the phylloxera crisis in the late 19th century. The average age of the vines is 40 years, and they are planted on a steep slope which climbs to 90 metres altitude. The cellars were formerly quarries going to 10 to 17 metres underground. There are even vine roots growing down through the limestone ceiling! Chateau Pavie is a soft and elegant wine, full bodied and well balanced. The bouquet is quite unique and the tannin perfectly integrated. In barrel, including 40% new barrels. A patchwork of different soils made up of deep clay, limestone overlaid with thin soil, sand and gravel. (12 x 75 cl)
