Description: In the Winter of 1996 the Buil & Gine family decided to return to wine elaboration in the Priorat region. Recently the family was active in the food retail business and, before that, their grand and great-grand parents had been wine makers and merchants. Bringing this tradition back to life, the present generation is dedicated to growing grapes and producing wine in each of the two areas of 'Denominacions d'Origen' of the region, Priorat and Tarragona-Falset. This dream started to materialise during the Spring of 1998 when it introduced its first wine, Gine Gine 1997. The winename consists of the grandfather's two last names who was a wine grower and was twice elected President of the Cooperativa Agricola Falsetenca. This wine is a blend of Garnacha , Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon and has gout de terroir character that comes from the slatey soils of the region. The grapes impart ripe, herbal, savoury character of Garnacha and Carignan, while the subtle oak softens the wine imparting a creamy edge. (12 x 75 cl)

Stellar Winery FAIRTRADE Organic Shiraz Rose RSA
Description: This wine has an attractive pink colour typical of an authentic Rosé, while the nose shows the ripeness of the young Shiraz with strawberry and Kir Royale notes. The apparent fruity sweetness on first tasting develops into a more solid structure displaying a dry finish. Stellar Winery is situated 275 km north of Cape Town on the road to Namibia. The winery makes use of a semi-arid climate, unrivalled refrigeration capacity and extensive in-house engineering skills to produce modern, Fairtrade organic wines. Stellar Winery was the first organic vineyard and cellar operation to receive the highly sought after Fairtrade accreditation. Fairtrade companies undertake to empower economically disadvantaged workers and ensure that a fair price is paid for the product along the whole supply chain. Stellar Winery undertakes a big commitment with both farm and cellar staff transported to and from work, while families receive health care and the permanent services of a community worker. Workers receive free housing, electricity and water as well as subsidised schooling and child-care facilities. Finally, a percentage of the wholesale price of the wine is paid directly back to the Stellar Fairtrade Workers' Trust. The wine is made in the sparsely populated Namaqualand region and does not suffer the light pollution that plagues urban areas around the world. The dark nights and clean air result in a breathtaking cosmic display with the aptly-named Milky Way at its centre and the producer pays homage to this phenomenon with the Stellar Range. The wines are assembled from different farms, ferments and yeasts. Each wine in the blend starts with deep colour and ripe fruit and tannins. Individual nuances arise from organic agriculture, saline irrigation water, cooling afternoon winds, wild ferments and other still-to-be-discovered influences. Lightly wooded for structure rather than flavour, these wines offer a tasting experience that will provide a convincing argument for the ascendancy of organic over conventional wines. (12 x 75 cl)

Allegrini LA GROLA IGT Veneto
Description: This is a very good wine at this price, made using Valpolicella grapes grown on one of the best, south-east facing slopes in the Classico district, but bearing no resemblance to the light, juicy red stuff usually associated with that wine name. Full-bodied and spicy, La Grola is well worth laying down for five years or more, especially in this magnum format, to reap the full reward of its opulent fruit. (6 x 1.5 Litres)

Bodegas Faustino CAMPILLO PAGO CUESTA CLARA RARO Rioja
Description: Don Eleuterio Martinez Arzok was born in Barriobusto. In 1861 he bought a house and lands in Oyon and founded the Faustino Group. At the turn of the century the vineyards were totally destroyed by phylloxera. His son Don Faustino Martinez Perez de Albeniz was born in 1904 and, in 1920, he helped his father rebuild and restore the vineyards. Faustino began bottling their wines in 1930 and by 1957 Don Julio Faustino Martinez, the third generation, took over the family business and in 1960, the Faustino brand was created in honour of his father. Today, the Faustino group owns several Bodegas including the 50 hectare estate Bodegas Campillo. Cuesta Clara is a 7.5 hectare estate with very low yielding vines that are over 50 years old. This wine is made from 100% Tempranillo Peludo, a rare clone of Tempranillo. Great care is taken with this wine and that is reflected in the Ageing in French Allier oak casks that lasted for 26 months before being aged in the bottle. Intense and lively cherry red coloured wines with orange reflections it has a generous and distinctive bouquet of ripe fruit blended with vanilla and licorice accents. Firmly structured, with lively tannins this red wine is full, fleshy and expressive. Limited Availability and produced only in a Magnum bottle. (1 x 1.5 Litres)

Planeta Syrah IGT Sicily
Description: Available in a Magnum Bottles. Planeta has risen spectacularly since inception in 1994, being named Winery of the Year 1999. In 1996 Planeta started growing Syrah because it is the international grape variety which, more than any other, is at its best in warm regions such as Sicily. As Syrah needs a long exposure to the sunlight, Planeta believe that sunny Sicily, widely accepted as the land of its origin, is the most suitable for the production of premium quality Syrah. Planeta blended the first vintages of this variety with Nero d’Avola, however, starting from 1999, a pure Syrah wine was produced, full and rich with a spicy bouquet and aromatic notes of green figs, this is the sunniest wine of the Planeta range. The Syrah grapes are destemmed and crushed, followed by the process of extraction on skins conduced with 12 days of maceration. After draining the wine is matured in 225 litres French oak barrels for 12 months. A ruby red coloured wine with violet undertones and an Australian styled nose reminiscent of intense spices like pepper and cloves. Fig and fig sap scents predominate, and the wood notes blend into the fruit gathering into a cocoa-like complex aroma. The young tannins and fresh fruit palate are luscious and supple in texture, with an impact that is lasting. The power of this wine is due to its complexity more than just the tannin. Chateau de Campuget ROSE Costieres de Nimes AC
Description: Chateau de Campuget, which belongs to the Dalle family since 1941, is producing great A.O.C. Costieres de Nimes wines. The vineyard of 160 hectares is situated in the heart of the A.O.C. area, between Nimes and Arles, a few kilometres from the right side of the Rhone river. The main characteristic of the 'terroir' is its soil , formed by an accumulation of round stones that had been rolled by many overflows of the Rhone river during the quaternary era. It allows the grapevines to establish their roots deep enough to find the water they need for growing. At the same time they profit of the sunny Mediterranean climate, essential for the good maturation of the grapes. Although equipped with stainless-steel tanks and modern tools, Chateau Campuget wines are made and matured in a traditional way. From its own bottling-line to the air-conditioned warehouse, it can control the quality of the wines from the vineyard to the bottle. Lovely Pale coral colour (12 x 75 cl)
