Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco Muller Thurgau Alto-Adige
Description: As the youngest co-operative winery in the South Tyrol, set in an area where wine-growing has had a long tradition, the Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco winery has become synonymous with premium white wines. However, the actual upswing of wine-growing in Eisacktal occurred with the founding of the Eisacktal Kellerei Klausen EKK in 1961. There are ideal conditions for white grape types in the Valle Isarco where the climate and topography bequeaths the wines their unique and distinctive character, while the inclination and height of slopes helps. Some of the vines grow at 800-900 metres altitude, here the white grapes flourish in particular because of the nutrient-rich soil, the number of sunny days and even distribution of rainfall. The Muller-Thurgau reaches its literal and qualitative peak in Alto-Adige (6 x 75 cl)

Azienda Agricola Zidarich CARSO TERRANO Carso Friuli
Description: Carso is a thin slice of land connecting Trieste to the main mass of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. Officially speaking, this is Italy, but, as is the case all along Italy's border with Slovenia, the wine culture transcends national boundaries. Winegrowing Carso extends well beyond the border into Slovenia and is a limestone-rich plateau that extends out from the city of Trieste and reaches toward the Julian Alps to the north. The heavy limestone content of the soils likely gave the zone its name , and it lends the wines, both white and red, a firm acidic backbone and mouth-watering minerality. The Azienda Zidarich is located in Prepotto, near Duino Aurisina, which is a small and characteristic village of the Carso area. The landscape is extremely varied and stimulating. The vegetation of the environment is very different and enhances the peculiarity of this territory dedicated to viticulture. Jagged chalky rock is the keynote of Carso viticulture, which is carried out on small terraces of red, iron-rich soil that have been reclaimed from the woodland. This lends the wines the characteristic acidity and mineral notes. The Terrano is made with a variant of the Refosco grape grown in characteristic red soil. The peculiar quality of the sun and soil of the Carso area contribute to the wine's particular characteristics. (6 x 75 cl)

Cantine Vittorio Innocenti Rosso Di Montepulciano DOC
Description: The estate lies between Montepulciano and Montefollonico and consists of about 32 hectares of which 12 are specialised vineyards, situated between 330 and 350 metres above sea level on medium-textured clay soils of Pliocene origin. The cellar buildings, dating back to end of the 13th century, are in the small, well-preserved medieval town of Montefollonico. The Rosso di Montepulciano has plummy warmth and the reassurance of a well-kept barnyard. Notes of saddle leather and wild rose assail the nose, the palate is sweet, soft and gently spicy, and the finish suggests beeswax on old wood. (6 x 75 cl)

Bellanotte CONTE LUCIO Pinot Grigio Venezia Giulia IGT
Description: Bellanotte is an eight-hectare farm in the variegated terroirs of the Isonzo valley and Collio hills. The soil is mainly calcareous with the presence of red gravels and a layer of ferrous stone. The harvest is manual with careful bunch selection while in the winery a pre-fermentation cold maceration helps to extract the aromatic components of the grapes and an extended period in contact with the lees lends the wine its eventual softness and equilibrium. This is the true ramato Pinot Grigio with a light amber colour and a pearly sheen in the glass. The nose suggests hay, elderflower and tea rose, followed by red apple, with light tones of dried fruits and almonds. The fine acidity gives the wine sapidity and persistence. (6 x 75 cl)

Francis Ford Coppola DIAMOND COLLECTION Red Label Zinfandel California
Description: Since its inception, the Francis Coppola Diamond Collection has been an expansive endeavor to create consistently high-quality wines that are pure expressions of each varietal. They sought out vineyard sites across California, which would ensure superior grapes year-after-year, and employ precise winemaking techniques to showcase the true character of the fruit. 'Winemaking and filmmaking are two great art forms that are very important in the development of California. They both start with raw ingredients-in the case of wine, the land and the grapes, and in the case of film, the script and the actors' performances. The winemaker takes these raw materials and ferments and blends. He says yes to this batch, no to that one. The director does the same thing: a series of yeses and nos, from casting and costuming to edits and sound mixes. In both cases you have to start with top notch raw materials-whether it's the land or a script.' -Francis Ford Coppola (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau du Cedre CUVEE PRESTIGE Cahors
Description: Pascal Verhaeghe has been the driving force behind the Cahors 'Quality Charter' and quality oozes from these wines. The estate was originally created by Charles Verhaeghe on vineyard land devastated by the frosts in 1956 in Vire-Sur- Lot. His sons Pascal and Jean-Marc duly studied winemaking, the former in Burgundy and California, the latter in Bordeaux. Ecological viticultural methods eschewing weedkillers and chemical fertilizers, yield reduction by serious pruning, leaf stripping for greater sun exposure and air circulation, harvesting the grapes on the verge of overripeness yield the superb raw material essential to create fabulous wines. In the cellars the Verhaeghes aim for softness, richness and harmony through gentle extraction by long vattings and limited pigeage, malolactic fermentation and sensible use of oak. Le Prestige is a big rich and elegant wine of outstanding quality, made from 90% Auxerrois and 10% Tannat it is intensly deep and brooding showing dark fruit and chewable tannins as the great texture and structure stand out. (12 x 37.5 cl)

Peter Pliger Veltliner Bressanone Alto-Adige
Description: Peter Pliger, proprietor and winemaker at this tiny property , is considered to be a pace-setter for the Valle Isarco region, which is located in the normally cooler northern portion of Sudtirol. His organically cultivated vines exhibit an aromatic profile and stony minerality that differ from those grown just north or south of his property and are expressive of a unique terroir. Located in the Brenner Pass which contains the Valle Isarco , a 'sweet spot' of 238 hectares of prime winegrowing land between the town of Castelrotto northeast of Bolzano and Novacella north of Bressanone. Now farmed by a passionate group of young winemakers, the pioneer who first drew attention to Valle Isarco's wines is Peter Pliger. Pliger and the rest of the area's growers employ similar winemaking methods including organic farming, stainless steel and acacia vats with no barrique, no malolactic fermentation to produce what Gambero Rosso deems wines of amazing minerality and complexity. The Veltliner with its exuberant honeysuckle aromas display a sweet entry to reveal white peach and a medley of avocado and sweet baby peas. Very rich and fat, with an almost unctuous level of glycerol, it is at the same time, wonderfully fresh showing clarity that offsets any sense of heaviness. An extraordinary Gruner Veltliner from the Valle Isarco. (6 x 75 cl)
